1080p coming from a streaming source is not going to look as good as 1080p from a bluray.

however i streamed the same movies on 360 and ps3, on their own amazon prime apps, and the quality was SIGNIFICANTLY better on the ps3 version. again, not netflix, but it doesn't surprise me that netflix on 360 is worse quality than ps3.

why? i have no clue.

I thought this true until I realized it's (at least for me) because the Xbox's wireless blows. Sitting right next to each other the Xbox was struggling to keep up while the PS3 was fine. Plugged both in wired and the pictures looked identical to one another.

I thought the 360 supports 5.1 surround as well?

Anyway, I have been using the 360 for Netflix for the longest time and I love it. But recently I started to use the PS3 because I wanted the 1080p picture. If only they didn't cap the 360 version at 720p and brought back the Netflix parties of yore...

I prefer Netflix on my PS3. The UI is better and it loads quicker than my 360, plus as others have said the picture quality is really good.

The PS3 has a lot more picture calibration options for people using HDMI as well. The 360 doesn't give the same picture for me even on a calibrated TV and the same 1080p source video on the HDD. This is all due to the options of the OS and software. I would guess that part of that is because when Sony put a Blu-Ray drive in the system to push Blu-Ray tech, they had to make sure they catered to all the videophiles who would early adopt.

The apps suck on both but I like the app on the PS3 better BUT, I like the way the 360 fast forwards or reverses than on the PS3. I usually only use netflix on my mobile devices but on the rare occasion that I use my consoles its usually on my xbox.

I just used it on both systems and the ps3 version is way better. For some reason my wifi connection on the 360 is shit compared to the ps3 right next to it

I have both and when I need to use the Netflix app on one of them, I use it on the PS3. The main reason is because I let my XBL Gold sub expire and the PS3's Netflix doesn't require a subscription to the PSN Network to use it.

At this point though, I have Roku boxes on all my plasma TVs and use those exclusively for Netflix, Amazon, etc.

Netflix is Netflix people, no difference.

You obviously haven't tried using Netflix on a variety of devices out there. Some of the built-in Netflix apps on TVs and blu-ray players are awful.

Has anyone tried wired Xbox vs wired PS3 for quality? That might be the problem. I have heard Xbox's wireless connectors are pretty crap.

I have never once used Amazon Prime instant viewing. Last time I talked to Amazon on the phone the rep even commented about it (it apparently shows them the last time you used it to view content).

Wow that must be really disappointing because I watched FireFly this weekend on Amazon Prime App using the PS3, and I thought the application was a load of shit.

Extremely laggy ( and it got worse over time; by the time I was seven episodes though, I needed to restart the Prime App because it was lagging)
Horrible Search Interface (Either I accept the couple recommendations they offer, or I have to do a manual search)
No simple way to filter anything that isn't free with Prime --> super annoying.

there is a whole category on the ps3 application that filters by free with prime movies. i've also not experienced any lagginess on the app.

i'm not sure what you mean by horrible search interface either - you enter search terms, and it updates possible query-string matches that you can quick select and search on those terms, or you can just continue typing.
