If i return the movies the day after i get them every time for over 2-3 weeks, then they slow down my rentals, which is fine, in those cases i should probably do more work and watch less movies anyway

the only complaint I have about them is the new releases, even when i dont return them fast, I still can rarely get new releases, I finally am getting wedding crashers and still havent gotten 40 year old virgin. It is great if I send them back on friday or sat. so they recieve it the monday before it comes out, but if I miss that day then it can be weeks to months before I will get a popular new release

Never gotten a scratched disk and in ~2 years have recieved 1 wrong disk

if i send a DVD back monday, I will get my new one on Wed....Blockbuster when i tried briefly wouldnt get me the new one till Thurs or Fri earliest

they have repeatedly shipped movies that weren't near the top of my queue, despite them ALWAYS showing as "available." When I call and tell them, they admit that the queue is wrong. Once, I called them just hours after the wrong movie had shipped, and magically the correct movie was suddenly "available" again.

They don't report when they actually get the movie back. It's been taking upwards of 5 days for movies to get to them -- but always one day to get back here. We ship straight from the post office.

Their policies intentionally make it slower for people who rent more movies. Read the Terms of Service. You DO NOT have the ability to get unlimited movies like they claim. If you are renting too much, they will slow your turnaround down. A lot.

bah...

that and they have almost no customer service. Have you ever tried looking for a phone number on their website?

No person legitimately watches 6-9 movies a week. If you're pushing a two-day return period, yea, they're going to slow you down, because it's clear your intentions aren't legitimate.

i could legitimately watch 6-9 movies per week. i'm probably not your average person though.
yes, i do have a full time, 40 hours a week job, i just don't do much when not at work.
i don't think i;d be able to return and receive that many movies per week though.

It is a bait and switch. Mine was fine for about a month and then everything went from short wait or available to very long wait. My roomate had an account at the same time he just started his earlier and it was funny for a bit to laugh at him when I could get movies that he wanted. But seriously after waiting a month trying to get a movie that I actually wanted I gave up. The only thing it's good for is getting older movies. Blockbuster gives you a couple free instore rentals which I can use for the newest movies which makes their service a little better now.

Btw it's easy to get branded as a heavy user just cus I watch the movies the day I get them and then send them back. Omg using the service as intended that really should mean you get lower priority. However they really don't lie about it, it's all spelled out it's just bad for trying to keep customers.

Umm...so you're calling me a theif? If you want to judge me, why don't you sit in a corner and suck your thumb because you DON'T KNOW how many movies I attempt to watch in a week. Bye.
If you are watching 6-9 movies a week, you are paying about $0.50 per rental that is delivered to your door. You have nothing to complain about if they slow you down a bit...

False advertising is illegal for a reason.

BTW, I'm lucky to get 3 movies a week, much less 9.

PLUS WHY DO THEY HIDE THE FACT THAT THEY ARE SLOWING ME DOWN? They always ship out the same day they report that they get them....but they're lying because it doesn't take a week for the movie to get there. The shipping facility is about 2 hours away.
If you honestly thought for a moment that you were going to get 3 movies every other day for $15/month, you are a fool. If you can't see it for what it is - a service to give you a steady stream (within the realm of logistical and fiduciary reality) of DVDs at a fixed cost, then you are doomed to be disatisfied. As it is you sound like a two year old boy who can't accept that when daddy says "No" he means it.

Their very business model puts practical limits on the word "unlimited". If you want to dwell on it and work yourself into a froth, go ahead. You are still getting a better deal than anyone else is giving you.

However you decide to spin this, you're still the loser. If you're copying them, more power to you, and F the MPAA, but you're breaking the law and you have no right to whine. If you're actually watching 9 movies a week, then that's just pathetic and I have no sympathy for you.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that if they made a big showy public statement to that effect, the type of people that start threads like "netflix are lying scumbags" would be falling all over themselves to post on their blogs that netflix is evil. By not saying it, they don't give the hotheads ammo and they allow people with reasonable expectations to continue having the word "unlimited" associated with netflix in their minds.

Whenever I've had to contact them for anything, it's been pretty easy. Of course, the only real problem that I've ever had was that I received a dvd that was in the wrong sleeve.

Overall, I've been pretty happy with Netflix. If we ever live near a Blockbuster at any point, we might try that just to be able to compare the two.

i live in michigan, and i used netflix for months. the movies were coming from a PO box IN MY TOWN, and going to the same place. i looked up the distribution center, and its about 10 miles away from me. i was getting them, like the next day. then, after about a 3 months, they started sending them to san antonio, san fransisco, or miami. i mean, how rediculous is that? there is a distribution center 10 miles away from where i live, and they are sending me movies from 2000 miles away!!! i was limited to like 9 movies a month, with 3 at a time.

I am a 5 at a time customer and have been for about 3 years. After a binge brought on by this thread, I have about 65 DVDs in my queue. It is that long because I have started queueing up lots of entire tv shows which come in 3-6 dvd sets...

I've heard better things about Netflix than Blockbuster. Heck, at least I'm sure Netflix pays its employees. Blockbuster shafted me on a $400 paycheck and I've been hassling with payrol, human resources, my store managers, and district leaders for 6 months now, and they still refuse to do anything. Screw them. Don't rent from them.

We probably get about five or six discs a week, and we're on the three at a time plan (they like to split ours up into 1 and 2, though, hence the five a week).

We've been customers since September or October, and have about 175 movies/tv shows in our queue.

I like netflix and all, but I'll only stick with them because I don't care about new releases that much, but I do notice that I have had Cinderella Man at the top of the queue for over a month now... It still says "very long wait", too. Fvckers.

Since 2000, I uusally only watch 6-8 movies on the 3-disc plan and have 177 discs in my queue.

What some people haven't noticed is that they have started shipping new releases on Monday to arrive on Tuesday, so if you send back a movie on Monday the new releases have already gone out to other people.

Also, in deciding who gets a disc they do seem to take into account how long a disc has been in your queue. So add releases at least a couple of weeks ahead of time, or even while they are in the theater.

4 years as a customer, with the exception of a few months back in 2002 when I was in between jobs, and 55 movies in my queue.

Edit: I want to add that I go through about 15-18 DVD's a month.

Been a customer over 4 years now. Have 104 movies in my queue. Have rented almost 600 movies to date. No major problems. Get the occasional long ship time, maybe 3 damaged discs ever, only got the wrong movie once, and that was just the wrong version of the movie I rented (got the original instead of the remake). Service is fine for me. I have been REALLY slow at watching movies the past 6 months, but previously I would generlly just watch 3 a week.

Are the mental midget who owns that website and the OP the same person?

I would love to know how Netflix is supposed to send movies out on Sundays and holidays when post offices are not open.

Thank you.
