Netflix First Two Weeks Free Online DVD Rental

Netflix lets you try their online DVD movie rental service free for two weeks. You have to enter a credit card and subscribe to their $20. per month service to get it. It doesn't say how long the "Try For Free" lasts until you sign up for it, but it is two weeks. You can cancel after two weeks and not get charged anything.
I live in the Bay Area and recieve the movies I order in one day, so I can have a new movie available to watch every day if I want. Their selection is incredible. I like the prepaid envelope to send the movies back, and it's nice not having late fees.

Unless you happen to live very close to a Netflix regional distribution center, you'd be doing extremely well to get more than five or six titles out of them within two weeks. And they'll hammer you with SPAM afterwards.

I don't hammered with any spam at all from netflix. The last email from netflix for me is tell confirming they recieved the movies I returned.

This is a great deal if you watch a lot of movies and live in the SF Bay Area. Their shipping is always same day and it only takes one day for the mail. You always have a new movie available to watch, everyday.
I watch 3-5 movies a week and this is alot cheaper and more convenient for me than renting movies. Plus late fees are pretty much inevitable for me so I'm really saving a lot. And their selection is incredible. They have movies that I have been unable to find anywhere else.

For the most part, the only mail I get from Netflix are notices that they've received DVDs I've sent back and notices that other DVDs are on the way. Every once in a while (once every couple of months or so), they might send out additional email. The email address I gave them for their use hasn't received mail from anybody but Netflix, so I can confirm that they don't sell addresses.

Not having to worry about getting movies back on time is a Good Thing. Half of the time I rented stuff from Blockbuster, I ended up getting it back to them late. $7 to rent one movie is kinda excessive. The nearest Blockbuster also doesn't have anywhere near the selection that Netflix offers.

Netflix is excellent if you like foreign, indie or obscure movies. Use search of Off-Topic for a bunch of earlier Netflix threads (search archived threads for even more).

you can also try signing up for yourfreedvds.com or freedvds.com and you will get "points" if you go thru them (I mean sign up for Netflix, you will still get the 2 free weeks). yourfreedvds.com gave me all the dvds I signed up for. I'm with freedvds.com now and this time I'm saving up the points to get the Sony DVD player.

I signed up with netflix about 2 months ago. They provide a great service and always fast shipping.

Better than blockbuster or anything else I think.

You can convert this into a warm deal. Whenever you upgrade your service they will give you that month for free. So you can take the lowest service for the first two weeks and then upgrade to the $19.99 or the 29.99 service. Can save you some money. And yes Netflix is an awesome rental place, I would highly advice you to use and also see if you live anywhere near their distribution centers.

When your free two week trial is up, cancel and you will be immediately offered a discount off the regular price for 3-6 months. I ended up paying only 16.99 per month for unlimited dvds. This lasted three months.

While there may be variations in the speed at which you get your movies, I can pretty much always get 5-6 movies in 2 weeks and I live nowhere near Atlanta (where mine ship from). You can increase the speed just by dropping off your watched DVDs at the post office instead of leaving them in your mail box. Sometimes mail carriers come late in the day, which means your DVD goes out on a later mail shipment.

I've been with Netflix since Feb and I'm happy. My only other alternative is a a crappy Blockbuster with very limited selection.

When blockbuster is charging $4 a pop for their DVDs (from a crappy selection of a few hundred, tops), Netflix for $20 is truely hot. Tack on a $4 late fee, which you will get from blockbuster every other month unless you are anal about returning your movies, and netflix is flaming.

Well I dunno about everyone else, but I live in Boston, MA and when I rent DVD's from Netflix I get my DVD's from em in 2 DAYS!! Yeah, it definitely helps that I live 40 miles within one of their major distribution hubs, but even so I heard that nowadays the national average to get a DVD is 2-4 days. But of course YMMV (wow, that's the first time I've ever had the chance to use that term on ATF Now Back in the Day, Netflix wasn't that great, as ALL of their DVD's came from So. Cal and it usually took 5-7 days to get one DVD. So in the end then, it wasn't worth it.

Now, I usually use Netflix 2-4 months a year. I'll just rent as many as I can and then get it out of my system, and don't sign back up for a while. But last time I was able to rent 23 DVD's in 30 days. Not too shabby As for the Spam, I've never gotten any, just a helpful reminder that they either received or are sending you a DVD.

I'd like to go with netflix, but have been low on spare cash, anyone know what kind of shipping center (location wise) they have around the ny state area?

Supposingly they also "punish" people that rent high volumes, I'm not sure if this is 100% accurate though.

Agree with Thatsright, I think the key is to determine how close you are to the Netflix facility that's going to be mailing the DVD's. I signed up back when they'd mail the titles from the west coast. Average time was 4-5 days from their mailing to my house, 1-2 days at my house and another 4-5 days (these are all business days too) for a minumum turnaround time of 11 (because there'll be a weekend somewhere in here) days if everthing went well.

Netflix has an outlet now, pretty close to Boston (where I am) in Worcester MA, meaning I can usually get a minumum of 3 titles weekly and often do better if I get them in the mail early in the day. I chose the budget plan for $14/monthly for 3 discs/weekly X 4.41 weeks to a month = 13.23 discs for the $14 fee.

Only thing to be really careful about is the local PO. This isn't meant to criticize anyone there, but the discs are subject to disappear 'in the mail' if I leave them in a mailbox, so I always leave them inside the local PO branch. This could be an opportunity for those capable of making backup copies of the discs, and beats Blockbuster hands-down. Just my $.02.

NetFlix is fantastic now that they have multiple distribution centers. I used them a year ago but the shipping from So. Ca. was taking too long, but now it's overnight for me. Here's a list of their current distribution centers:

Yeah, that is really weird?? I had two SEPARATE DVD's from NetFlix that never showed up in my mailbox here back in January. Originally I was suspicious of my neighbors down on the 1st floor. Now I feel bad for even thinking they might of taken them, now I agree with DarthRanger that I now suspect that a Postal Carrier 'helped' himself along the way. But NF customer support were supper nice, and never charged me once I called em to let them know.

When I signed back up in Jan, I used a different CC than in the past, so I was able to get the two weeks for free, and then I decided to cancel, but when I went on-line to cancel they offered me the 5 out rate, but for the 3 out rate price. So I took it

BTW, for as long as I can remember, the two week 'Free Deal' has been around for something like two years.

I've tried NetFlix twice on the two week trial...not bad, their selection is good, but their customer service isn't the greatest. Still, for two weeks, it'd be worth it.

On a side note...if you get any kind of bonus from Best Buy with a Netflix trial, READ THE FINE PRINT...I bought Spiderman hoping to get a $10 giftcard with the trial...what I didn't read was that you had to KEEP the Netflix account for 3 months to qualify *lame*.

If you're into Anime or Foreign films, I HIGHLY recommend www.greencine.com....VERY good service (they have their own forums for customer feedback and discussion), and their selection in this category is the best I've ever seen.

I'm not sure when the 2 week deal started, but I signed up Thursday and I have 10 days until I have to start paying, and 7 days after cancel to get the movies back. I am in Austin, they are in Houston, even with only 9 business days I am still going to get 6 movies free. I love it. Good selection, too. The only movies I wanted to get that they don't have are most of the Connery Bond movies.

Netflix is da shiznit if you have a DVD burner. On nights you don't want to watch a movie, burn it and then mail it back to get more ;-)
