Good news, it gets better around episode 3 2/3 into it.

Give it a chance, at least 4 episodes before throwing in the towel.

I'm halfway through and there seems to be a lot of filler scenes. I don't know if they do that so that they can be cut if it's ever syndicated or if the director really thinks they add enough to the story to justify the time. Either way, I find my self hitting the 3 second advance many times each episode.

I ended up watching the rest of the season. I was pretty much done with it after episode 4, but due to lack of anything else on and my being trapped in bed due to a surgery, my woman declared we're watching the rest of it. I'm not sure what she was expecting at that point but she does give shows much more of a chance than I ever do.

I will say the show doesn't really get better. They may have added some action in the last couple of episodes but it even that get buried under a ton of filler. Even the woman was was openly mocking it by the last couple of episodes. I do admit that I had some expectations on it as the previews and what I read about the show was totally different than what I got. I'll also say that even when I put it aside it was still a bad show. The filler was heavy and drawn out. I got the heavy handed messages they were throwing at me (I'm not sure how anyone could miss them) but man they could have cut out a few hours of the show and no one would notice. It's a huge shame because not much is explained. It's like the Lost level of mystery that requires you to be onboard with things getting resolved/explained down the road. Even then what they did explain didn't seem to remain the same past that moment they explained it. A lot of things didn't make any sense and they didn't even seem to follow their own rules on how things were supposed to work.

Case in point, I seem to remember Jonas saying they only needed to speak out loud when they were in his area, yet later on he's talking to the heroes and yet still speaks out loud so Whispers can hear too. While that may have been him doing that intentionally so Whispers could hear, the whole concept never seemed to be clear on how it was supposed to work or consistent on when it was. I also really think the characters bounced around in skill sets, case in point was the girlfriend of Mike/Nomi who started life as a bookstore employee and suddenly was hacker girl.

I'll also say it really felt like more Soap Opera than Sci-Fi type show, and I never really did care about any of them. It also had so many scenes that dragged out that I kept checking my clock for how long they were.

Stupid yet kinda spoilery.
When Will and Lito meet again and Lito reminds Will they had sex, does this mean that Will's Bi? Will he jump into Riley's body when they have sex so she can do him?

Just finished it. Yes it starts slow, but the last several episodes are very good IMO. The writing and action were excellent in the finale too.

Note, I had zero expectations going in, but I was pleasantly surprised. I only started watching it because there was nothing else available, and I'm glad I did. It seems they don't have a super huge budget (or had to ration the budget because they had so many location shots), but I think they've done well nonetheless.

I'm very much looking forward to season 2.

BTW, I see now several reviewers say it has things in common with Cloud Atlas, but I couldn't sit through Cloud Atlas. I watched 20 mins of Cloud Atlas and then shut it off. Sense8 seemed much more interesting to me. I'll have to give Cloud Atlas another chance in the future, but I'm in no rush to do that.

I think I finished episode 5 last night. This is definitely where the show starts stretching its legs and finding its groove, but I also think, for this type of show, the first episodes were very important, a necessary evil. I feel it might be difficult to really show the character's motivations and what kind of trouble they are in, which is necessary before it feels right to show them helping each other, slowly adjusting to the whole "I see other people and jump around locations like I'm going crazy but apparently am not crazy" thing.

It grabbed me enough at the beginning that I wanted to see it through, see where things went, as someone who simply enjoys story-telling I like completing stories. It's a medium (storytelling, of various ways) in which I want to work and craft, so I have a motivation to learn from and draw inspiration from other projects.

However, I will admit that while it grabbed me, it didn't GRAB me. Something like Lost or BSG, those sucked me in from the first moment. This didn't have that pull, but it seemed like something was there, itching to be let loose.

I feel like it's getting there and now I thoroughly want to watch the next episode, and the one after that, and just binge... hardly wanted to go to bed last night and instead just keep watching. Damn those adult responsibilities. :|

I feel like the characters are believable in their adjustment and adaptation. I know there's a conspiracy and I've tried to avoid spoilers, so I won't really give this thread much attention until I wrap the show up.

That's the one pain in the ass about Netflix series threads. Other shows you can catch up and then participate in discussion on a week-by-week basis, ignoring it until you have watched it on your DVR or jumping straight in while watching live. But Netflix shows, some people binge, some people watch an episode here and there. Spoiler tags only go so far in threads like this, because you never know if the spoilers are finale spoilers or only spoiling the second episode. In other serial threads, spoiler tags can only be about the most recent or earlier episodes. :\

I enjoyed it. The production values are very high, had to remind myself this was not a movie.

I want another great space opera like STTNG or BG2 or Firefly. They're expensive to make, unfortunately, so we get a lot of these SF premises that can be shot either in current modern settings or cheap stage sets.

The Expanse will be coming out soon on SyFy. The books are incredible, we'll see if SyFy manages to ruin it though. If you want some good space opera to read though pick the books up, start with Leviathan Wakes.

I hope it's not as much of a soap opera as Battlestar was. I'd still watch it of course because . . . science (fiction).

destrekor, yeah I never read these Netflix threads until I've finished the entire series.

Mind you, even with weekly shows it can be a problem. For example, for Game of Thrones the thread had been repeatedly spoiled by mention of the book, and also some episodes leaked early.

Watched the first two episodes. Intrigued. I'll watch the third. I agree that it gets off to a bit of a slow start. I think it was a tough concept to bring out in the story: that these people are starting to get glimpses of each other's experiences.

Not glowing reviews here. So is this Netflix' marco polo? Watchable, but only if there's absolutely nothing else on?

I would give it 3.5 stars out 5. Decent.

To put it another way, I think it's about 5X better than Under The Dome.

We tried the other day. Made it about 40 minutes into the first and had better things to do. I'm sure we'll circle back around to it some day.

Personally I thought the show was phenomenal.

Except:

The last episode where Riley takes the gun from the guards.

1. Why not use the gun to get out?
2. Why not have one of the sense8's jump in to command?
3. Whomever the doctor is that can see through their eyes and therefore the rest of them (whats his name?), why not kill him instead of running from him?

It's almost like they expected you to forget or not think about it.

It didn't impress me much at first but I stuck with it and quite enjoyed it by the end. Dang, I wish there was another season to watch, haha.

Dat Riley doe.

1. Because she was drugged.
2. Because she was drugged.
3. IIRC, he wasn't actually there at the time.

I'm almost to the end and I'm a little on the fence. I'm enjoying the characters, and the premise is interesting, if ridiculously embellished in places. I actually am surprised they pulled it off to the extent they have. It's a pretty difficult idea to get across, and as usual they overreach in areas (in one scene someone was "visiting" and rifled through a book... how does that work?).

But I am maybe getting a wee bit sick of the hushed, breathless, something-might-hear-us overtone, especially that chick Riley. And about two shows from the end I am getting equally tired of wallowing in each characters own traumatic past. Make something happen dammit.
