I just wish it would play (instant movies/shows/documentaries) on my PS3.

Full HD streaming would require very high download speeds (around 20Mbs). The only way they could do that and not have to worry about adding extra servers and what not would be to utilize some type of P2P system. Considering they have to work with the Luddites in Hollywood, I doubt that would fly.

Yeah Netflix rocks. I just received my Roku player today by Fed Ex. Funny, I ordered it last evening and it was delivered today (on a sat).
I have to say that while its not very aesthetically pleasing, the player is a very neat device. The setup is easy as heck and the menu's are short, to the point and very simple. I've been watching 'The Office' on my plasma for the past couple of hours and the picture quality is amazing.

There's a rumor that they're going to add that functionality to the PS3 and/or Xbox 360. The rumor was based on a Netflix customer survey from a few months ago in which they asked if their customers would be interested in that feature. Hopefully it comes soon.

I'm not sure you can really call it "amazing" since it's SD, but I think the quality if just fine for streaming video. But I'm no videophile.

I'm seriously considering buying one of these. Do you just plug the thing in and it's ready to go or does it have to be on a wireless network? I like the idea that its a one-time fee (no rental fees/contracts) and it sure beats watching those movies in front of my computer.

Well, its not HD but its pretty good for SD. In fact, its a lot better than the SD channels I get on the same tv.

You have to have a wired/wireless network for it to work. The unit generates a code when you first set it up and then you have to go to the netflix website using your computer and add the code there to activate the Roku unit.
The programming currently isn't that great for instant viewing. It's supposed to get better over time but Netflix has been notably slow the past few months for adding quality content.

When they add movies I want to see or add all movies instead of crappy b-movies to the watch now feature, i might look into it. the selection is pretty horrible right now.

Cue pcslookout...

Apparently it doesn't work over component. I use VGA for my HTPC, so that doesn't matter to me. It'll look pretty much the same as a 700-1500 MB divx movie ripped from a DVD source (of course that depends on your Internet connection)

I've done this as well... I think it looks pretty decent. I really with they'd improve their horrific selection though, I'm curious what's holding them back.

Licensing I guess. I think the selection is good enough that there is plenty of worthwhile stuff to watch, although it may not be what I'd choose to watch if I could choose anything.

Netflix claims that they have 10% of their collection. Considering that I have 400 in my queue and 39 are available for watch it now, I can't claim they are only putting the bad stuff online.

I just saw Daylight starring Sylvester Stallone. Great movie. That is about the realist imitation of New Yorkers I've seen in any movie. Absolutely worth a look just for that. I live in NYC, btw.

I have used netflix with my computer hooked up to my tv by vga. It worked fine. Quality was slightly worse than dvd quality but was definatly acceptable.

Yeah. I just got rid of cable. But even when I had it, I was at the mercy of the cable companies to provide me with entertainment. Now, I can choose what I want to watch for far less money.
