I was a former member and they sent me these details...

As a former member of Netflix, we thought you might like to know about our NetFlix Lite program for $13.95 a month. With the Lite program, you keep 2 movies at home and will receive the next available title from your Rental Queue when you send one back. Best of all, you still get all the great benefits of NetFlix -- a huge selection, no due dates, no late fees and no waiting in line!

I'm with this plan now. It works great for me as I don't have too much time for the 3 DVDs out plan. I get about 10/month (can be higher but I don't have time to watch it the same day I receive it), which average out about $1.50/DVD (with tax, I paid $15/month)

This might just be the ticket for me... The $19.95 seemed a bit high for my needs.

It's not even an option for me. I guess I would have to cancel my membership to get the chance at this.

No, this is not an option when you click the change plan button. You have to click CANCEL membership button then on the next page, they will give you an option for 2 movies out at $13.95/month to keep you as a member. I did it this way.

When I cancelled my Best Buy 2 week trial, I was offered $15.95 for 3 months, or $11.95 for 6 months...no permanent change.

I've been on the 2 dvd plan for over a year. It used to be an option under account settings, 'upgrade or downgrade account', but they removed it (those tricky devils). Two movies out is just right if you don't want to watch movies every other night...why pay for three dvds out if they always sit around for a few days anyways?

I guess you could just call customer service on their secret phone number and request the lower account level:

1-888-netflix

mon - fri 6am - 7pm
sat - sun 6am 2:30pm Pacific Standard Time

But it is, offered only to light users. I did it just today. If you're a heavier user, you might have to access the cancel screen or call in to get it.

How quickly do you get the movies at the top of your queue list and does anyone have any experience in North NJ with turnaround times?

handydave: Your DVDs would come from the new Flushing, NY warehouse. Turnaround time for NYC is one day. So you order today, arrives tomorrow. I bet it would be one day for you, too, or at the very most two. Great, great service.

Gbus is right. I just downgraded since my DVD watching has really trailed off now that I bought TIVO. I'll try the two a month to see if its even worth it. I may have to cancel anyway since TIVO has sucked up all of my available TV watching time, which wasn't much to begin with anyway.

Sounds like this is the plan for me.

Btw, do they have pron or is it only movies they show in the theater? If they dont then its still a good deal, but if they do then its even better.

Yup, I was offered the 5-out plan when I canceled my 6-month gift certificate yesterday.

How is the quality of the DVD rentals you guys are getting on new releases?

Early 2001 I tried out Netflix but wasn't all that happy because most of the new release DVDs usually had a few scratches and were dusty.

I've never had a problem with DVD quality, and there's 1-day turnaround for me... I order today, it's here tomorrow. Excellent service.

The problem with this company is that they won't really make money and won't be around in a few years...

I spoke with a 'higher up' there about 14 months ago and was told that each DVD shipped costs them about $2, after the cost of their special shipper and postage. If someone does only 3 a month, that's $6 cost, plus they had to buy the DVD at a rental rate ($60-100 each) so it's not a money-maker, I can tell you that. They're hoping to sign up a million people at $20 / month, and that nobody actually uses the service No risk to us, I admit, but the company doesn't stand a chance right now.
