Netflix has a lot of great original content for sure. But binge watching almost kills the experience lol. If you happen to catch a show shortly after it's released, it might only take you a week or two to watch all the episodes. Then you have to wait a year for the next season. In some ways it's great but in other ways it kinda sucks. At least with TV you usually only have to wait a few months for the next season.

Funny you say that because I get a lot more enjoyment from binge watching a series. But I feel guilty afterwards for spending that much time in front of the TV.

I recently upgraded from the regular to the UHD version so mine will be $2/month extra but oh well. Like someone else said, compared to TV/Internet bill that's nothing. I should probably drop Hulu although since that's bundled with Spotify it's only $4.99/month (cause I'm a gangster). Fuck, for only $5 I'll probably just leave it. I sometimes wipe my pooper with $20 bills anyway, money ain't no thang.

As much as I'd like to binge watch, I normally take my sweet ass time watching shows. Maybe one a day and sometimes less if I don't have the time. It draws it out and I enjoy it a lot that way, and look forward to the next episode in the next day(s). I think my days of binge watching (I did it with Lost back in the day, and when I first discovered 24 in 2006) are basically over.

Most of the content is shit anyways.
And no, I'm not paying for a disc with unskippable intros, ads (WTF!), menus and other crap.
When I open a MKV the movie just plays as intended.
When they can get this through their greedy ass mindset I will buy discs.
I own lots of titles on BD and DVD going back to the 90s. LD and VHS/Beta before that. Even capacitance electronic disc. I have a 30TB NAS full of rips and 80% of that is what I legally purchased beforehand. DVDFab was a godsend. I'm also replacing DVD rips with H265 bd rips with much better quality and roughly half the file size of the old DVD rips. I keep a threadripper build busy with handbrake these days.

Pretty amazing today that I can put a ton of movies on a 400GB microSD, slap that in my Note8 and not even need a net connection!
My point is if you don't want to pay because so much is crap or whatever reason you want to use, then don't watch it just because you can pirate it.

You won't "win" this argument. Experts like Fir have spent too much time building up their excuses for justifying piracy, you'll just be beaten with stupidity.

That said, I will not be dropping Netflix over this. I watch it nearly every day, even if only for 10mins.

The price hike makes me want to cancel out of spite, but then I remember that the Punisher is coming out soon, so...yeah.

I wish they had an advanced browsing interface...I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of content they have because all I do is browse their selection on my Roku & don't bother looking anything up online. I fall into this mental cycle where I feel like there's nothing to watch on Netflix, but there's one or two things good enough to string me along, and when I look at how much cheaper it is for my 4K family plan on Netflix vs. cable, I'm like, meh, so I keep it.

Netflix is like the equivalent of candy bars at the checkout aisle in the grocery store...you don't want to spend the money, but it's right there, and it's convenient, and it's cheap, so you do it. Curse you, marketers with psychology degrees!

I'm curious about this whole piracy angle. If someone is paying for cable tv, netflix, amazon, etc. (all of the above) and still downloads it instead for convenience, is that still frowned upon by you guys?

It's time to re-evaluate my Netflix needs. I may move it to the model I use for premium channels now. Subscribe when there is something I want to watch, and then cancel it at the end. Since I moved all my premium channels over to Amazon, the ease of enabling and disabling them is saving me quite a bit compared to when it was part of my cable plan. It's just much easier to cancel now.

Does Netflix still have peering agreements with Comcast, Verizon, At&t, etc?
If net neutrality ends, I could see Netflix having to greatly raise prices, if they don't still have peering agreements.

Going to become a statistic and join the flood of customers who drop them for raising prices by 10%. I can't wait to see the headlines of customers lost.

Of course it is, because they are old and judgey. You are only 'renting' from those guys. Downloading means you could watch it after the apocalypse, and that's a no no, because they will want to sell you the POST APOCALYPTIC version later.

People have been screaming piracy piracy for years...and it hasn't stopped a thing..they are making money hand over fist. It's a moot point by now. Just do what you want to do and quit worrying about what the other guy is doing.

I get a netflix card once in a while and catch up on their content. I also did an HBO run as well, then Epix. May try Showtime next. No need to have them all at the same time.

The market is getting to fragmented though.

I do think Netflix will push their luck. Their catalog is shrinking and the cost is going up.

That's like the second time now they raise prices, it's still cheap, but the whole selling point is that it was only like $8/mo. If they keep raising the prices they're just going to be like the cable companies.

To be fair this is not their fault, there is a ridiculous amount of politics and artificial costs because of IP BS to airing TV content so their costs probably keep going up too.
