Forget BLM, let's talk about Netflix Price Matters!!!

I'm devastated and flabbergasted when received the email stating that Netflix will raise my monthly subscription fees by a whole 2 dollars starting August. A WHOLE 2 DOLLARS!!!

Will someone think of the children!??

Considering that I can save a child somewhere in Africa for just 50 cents, that's 4 child right there that can be saved. Or, if you're in San Francisco, 2 dollars will surely get you a 20 minutes slot at a parking meter. Not to mention, that's almost half price of a small iced caramel macchiato (light caramel, add shot).

Man, I don't know what to do, this news is severely impacting my emotional state of well being. Someone hold me. Better yet, I have to get a Go-Fund-Me going so I can continue my Netflix subscription.

I'm still trying to figure out netflix. You pay for this thru a cable subscription? I just download everything for free with adblock plus. Just wondering what this whole netflix thing hoopla is about.

It's estimated that Netflix will lose 500,000 subscribers because of this 25% hike.

I'm really serious about this. Why would you pay for cable or any subscription when you can simply add a computer with or without a wifi card to your large screen tv.

For starters, most of the video downloading people do is illegal. Second, Netflix and Amazon have some very good original shows. Third, good luck getting 4K and HDR content from a computer.

It isn't Netflix's fault. These studios feel like they're entitled to more and more money for the same content and Netflix can only push back against the hikes for so long before they have to relent in contract renegotiations. Understandably that means raising sub fees. The sad thing they're making do with less and less content all the time, they simply would not be able to offer the staggering number of movies and shows they had years ago today with the same sub fees. They'd be paying millions more for the same content.

Netflix was able to negotiate a lot of the original library deals when the content owners were still ignorant of just how big of a deal streaming is.

Now, they all have their own shitty apps (much worse than Netflix in nearly all cases) and do shady things (disallow Chromecast support, for instance) and push people back to pirating.

I hear it's gotten so bad Netflix now needs to pay off telecoms or else they throttle the speeds customers paid for when attempting to use their service for netflix. Consumers are basically paying the hike just to use their own internet the way they want to.

Not just Netflix. Does anyone here subscribe to MoviePass? They just raised their unlimited monthly rate from $30-$45 per month (depending on location) to $99. Small bump. You know... inflation.

Yeah unfortunately I think this is the way things are going. Each movie studio is going to release their own streaming service with only that studio's movies and want you to pay up (probably at least $15/month for each one). At which point the entire thing will be as expensive as cable and it will drive people away again.

l would rather Netflix double or triple prices than lose content. I am probably in the minority though.

I have almost every channel Dish has as well as Amazon Prime and Netflix. I watch a little bit of each.

ah, once it goes about 15-16, i'll consider cutting it, but for now, the content is still good enough.

If Netflix becomes $15-16, I'll treat it like HBO Now. I'll pay for two months when the stuff I want is on and then cancel it until next season.

When did they say they're raising it 2 bucks?

Two years ago when they sent customers an email.

It said that they would not raise the price on those of us who have been members for a certain period of time for 2 years. That 2 years was up a few months ago.

Since the price hike, I actually upgraded to the $11.99/m plan so 4 people could use the account at once. I was tired of my baby sister (she's 9) calling me all the time because she kept getting denied access to netflix because someone else was on.

I cancelled just because I could, I rarely use it anyway. $2 makes no difference to me, but their whole pussy-footing around the issue was annoying. Extending times out, make sure it starts after OITNB, some people getting more time at the reduced rate than others, etc. Netflix cares more about it's shareholders than it's users.

I'll pick it up again in the fall.

Just checked my account and it still says 7.99 (HD, two screens), with no emails stating they'll raise my rate. It does say the rate is only guaranteed until the 26th of this month, but I believe their policy is to give 30 days notice.

Not that it would matter anyway.

You may or may not get an email, but you'll see it when you log in to Netflix, eventually. It popped up for me when logging in to it on TV, and also received the email.
