Well, it's getting to the point where I might go back to considering blockbuster. The 2 dvd plan for netflix is the same cost as 1 dvd/game for blockbuster now (11.99). I don't watch many movies, so I'd rather have an option of actual new releases (not netflix's half assed list of new releases) and the added possibility of getting games when I want.

I never watch more than 1 at a time anyhow.

If this is true then I'll be downgrading service. I only use the discs for semi-new releases cause I don't go the theaters. I can live without.

It's quite clear the studios don't want streaming for whatever reason, I guess disc sales. Eitherway I hope someone will figure something out to let me stream everything, but I know that probably won't happen for awhile yet.

How is Netflix's HD streaming selection? I tried one free month on my Playstation but I didnt see much HD stuff...I didn't look that hard, but I figured it shouldn't be that hard to find...

if I had to choose, I'd only go for netflix DVD's by mail.

ever since the clusterfuck UI revamp, I've barely used Netflix Instant... it's just not pleasant to navigate through or try to find movies on, especially when I'm on my netbook. and trying to watch a tv series on my xbox isn't even easy anymore now that they've removed the "recently watched" category.

As long as the price of streaming only doesn't change I'm fine. It's the only thing I find netflix useful for. Actually I don't even think we have the discs in Canada.

It's not really obvious if it's HD or not (at least not on the ps3 unless you hit the button on the bluray remote to bring up the stream type after the movie is playing). There are some out there, and it looks good (although my cable box still does better hd). It seems like they are adding quite a few of them though, many documentaries and new movies are in HD now. Not too sure about TV series though, I never watch them.

Congrats, MPAA and studios. By making Netflix increase fees, you just drove away a bunch of subscribers who are now going to turn to torrents instead which will cost you a lot more money than you're gaining from Netflix. Idiots.

These price increases are/were inevitable. I love Netflix but in order to justify a significantly higher cost to consumers, they're going to have to significantly increase their instant watch selection. I'd probably pay $20/month for streaming only if I could stream just about everything within a month or 6 weeks of it being released on DVD.

I doubt that.

So the studios aren't losing $30 every time someone torrents a movie?

I only use netflix streaming. No big loss for me. If it's not streaming somewhere on the internet, I don't want to watch it.

It's a good value, regardless.

However, I'm still jumping ship at the first competitor that can compete due to their retarded changes to streaming layout forcing me to waste a considerable amount of time when perusing for something to watch, and their outright refusal to even acknolwedge the 5000 / 5000 complaints on their blog about it for over a month.

ROFL, just noticed they now made facebook a requirement for commenting on their blog. Yea, they're losing my business.

I highly doubt there are a significant number of subscribers who are 'legit' just because of the current Netflix rates...

Assholes who pirate movies will do continue to do so until the movies become free because they are cheap fvckin bastards that are too cheap to actually pay for something.

These are the same assholes that say movies like Avatar and Transformers totally suck, yet download them as soon as they are available...

Hmmm. They'll be edging up toward $20 after tax now. I use the hell out of their disk and streaming services though. I get maybe 6-7 Blu Rays a month and watch stuff almost every day on Instant Watch. It may be worth it to me to stay with them even now.

Guess I'll be dropping my streaming subscription. Oh well, there's never anything good in their selection anyway.

I look at it as making a small amount of money off a possibly tiny segment of subscribers who are 'legit' vs. making none at all from them. And the backlash from people cancelling their subscriptions (again, making nothing at all from those cancellers) due to the increased charges will certainly go far beyond that group of torrenters.

The MPAA and studios seem determined to shoot themselves in the foot when it comes to all things streaming. Apparently they didn't learn a damn thing from the music industry.

I'm dropping streaming. The continued price increases are ridiculous. Asking me to pay $4 a month more for what i currently have on TOP of the $3 increase from last year.....fuck off.

I doubt that the small amount of money they would have made from this segment would cover what it costs Netflix to service them...

Thanks for the heads up. No way in hell I'm paying nearly $20 for streaming and DVD.

Most of the good movies are not available for streaming anyways, this has been their plan all along. Time to look into other streaming services and perhaps take up a short position in their stocks.
