I could watch Hulu Plus for TV but I have directv with a very capable DVR situation

so you pay for satellite but netflix streaming is only worth $3/month to you? people really overestimate what EIGHT dollars a month is. that's at most an hour of work if you have it tough. a decent lunch or an ok dinner. less than 1 movie ticket...two new movie streams...if you have any taste whatsoever, and even if you don't, you can find enough on netflix streaming that will last you YEARS

Existing members can float on their current plans until September 1s

To be honest, I mostly use the streaming. I've had Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for like 3 weeks now so I'm hardly getting dvd's from netflix.

It might make more sense to me to just keep the streaming and run to the redbox for newer dvd releases..

I'll be keeping both, but probably just 2 DVDs/blu-rays out instead of my current 3.

Besides new releases, there are older shows and movies that won't make it to streaming (like Defying Gravity which I'm watching now) and some movies deserve to be seen on blu-ray.

I'll either drop back to streaming only or cancel completely. Not sure yet, but given the ever-shrinking number of streaming movies available, I may just bail.

Too bad, Netflix used to be such a killer value.

I understand why they're raising the prices but the price jump is a little drastic for me. Still a good value and it's not that I can't afford it, I just feel like I should vote with my dollars, so I'm going to completely cancel before 9/1.

I have the 2 out at a time + blu-ray and streaming. I'll keep both, even though I'll be going from $17 to $22 a month.... but I'm not super happy about it. To be honest I've had the same two blu-ray movies sitting on a shelf for about 4 months now though.

Also I don't have cable, so Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime VoD are my TV sources. Works out to around $30 a month after the price hike.

I've gotten my daughters hooked on some old favorites like Bullwinkle, Popeye, Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny, Sylvester and Tweety they just love. The only reason I like NF is for some documentaries and children's programming for sure.

Thx for this. Went from streaming + 1 DVD to streaming only. I barely used the DVD part and I have MANY old favorite tv shows to watch. SO streaming is worth it for me.

Absolutely. I use DirectTV every day. I use netflix streaming a couple times/month recently (or less). There's nothing on it. I watch new shows only. I have no interest in anything old whatsoever. It was snazzy when netflix was getting leverage as it was coming on TV, that was pretty cool, but that dried up. $8 is not much at all but then it's still more than what the crap on the instant view is. There is enough to watch for years and years, but I could go to my library and find literally a life time of reference material on horticulture and 5th century stonework. It doesn't mean I want to. I am stingy. My monthly budget is pretty tight and I don't throw out on crap I don't need or use. If the streaming content was great I'd pay a lot for it. In all honesty if it had new movie releases when they hit DVD (same day) and all current new TV shows the day they hit there's no reason I wouldn't pay $60/month for it. But when it's just more or less crap I'd simply rather not even see it on my credit card statement.
Pachter predicts Netflix's streaming content licensing costs will rise from $180 million in 2010 to a whopping $1.98 billion in 2012.
This doesn't make sense. I went to wiki and read that for 2011 they expect $3B revenue or so for 2011, up from $2B for 2010, which saw net income of only $161M. Where the F are they going to come up with $1.98B in 2012 for content licensing costs? Oh, I think we just found out I think the reality of streaming is definitely catching up with netflix (and with us). Studios want in on that action for sure, we've basically had it free up until now (because netflix basically had it free).

At that price I'd rather have Blockbuster by Mail and Netflix Instant. BBbyM includes BD and games and has much faster turn-around plus I got three months for $9.

Will be canceling the dvd plan. I went from 3 to 1 dvd plan long ago because I couldn't keep up with it anymore.
They should just offer a grandfather plan for those who've been using their service for years. But nope, they will just continue to reward their customers by shitting on us.

I have 1 Blu-Ray + streaming. I don't stream enough anymore, so I'll probably drop down to the 1 Blu-Ray at a time. I usually get 8 movies/month.

I wonder if this is how they are going to fund their south america expansion. Eitherway I'm not paying 17 bucks for this, probably will keep streaming just to work on my queue though.

I paused my subscription today (streaming only) and I think I am just going to cancel it. I barely stream anything anyway.

I just canceled my Netflix after I got that email.
My date is 9/1/11.

I don't use it enough to justify it anymore. $10 was ok, but $16 pushed me to cancel.
I will just use Red Box if I want to watch something.

i will be cancelling mine too, regrettably.

Star Trek, A-Team, Magnum PI, Spartacus (though I think part of it has been removed), Battlestar, Leverage -- so much to watch, so little time.

The wife is mad and wants to cancel (it is her account). I told her if she did, I'd get a streaming-only account. One thing I don't like is that not all episodes of a series are typically streaming. For example, in the A-Team and Tudors, there are definitely episodes which are DVD only. With this new pricing model, I don't expect Netflix to change that.

FWIW, I believe Hulu has some of The A-Team episodes. It may be worth a look...IIRC I watched one there that Netflix had only on disc.

Was that a coupon or something? Mind sharing?
