Better for free? Lol, do share.

And I thought it was always one device at a time?

Im not going to name them since it's likely against the rules. Service is not always consistent but the selection and content are infinitely better. Or I've been told.

I thought I read simultaneous streaming is limited to two and the number of devices on an account is six.

I don't need to leach streaming from someone. There are better free streaming alternatives out there.

I guess it depends on which plan you have:

Some membership plans allow you to watch simultaneously on more than one personal computer or Netflix ready device at the same time. If you are on the 1 disc out at-a-time plan, you may watch only one device at a time. If you are on the 2 discs out at-a-time plan, you may watch on up to two devices at the same time. Members on the 3 disc plan can watch on up to three devices at a time. The maximum is four devices simultaneously, and that is available for members on the 4 or greater discs out at-a-time plans.
I was testing on the 3 disc, so that might be why it worked. I know 2 works on the streaming only account (although their site says it doesn't, I've done this often, and it does), not sure if more than 2 work though.

6 devices registered does seem to be the max though, and when you hit the max it prompts you and you need to re-register, and it removes the device in the list that hasn't been logged into in the longest amount of time.

Surprise, surprise. On the day that Netflix's price increase kicks in for renewal customers, Starz ends contract talks to renew their streaming license with Netflix. All Starz content will be pulled 2/28/12 when the existing contract ends. The sticking point? Starz wants more money.

Get ready, Netflix streaming users; you're either going to be paying more for less content soon or you're going to get another price increase. Makes me glad I went to disks only.

Starz content is pretty much garbage anyway.

But don't expect them to be the only ones. It seems that all of Netflix streaming licenses are currently dirt cheap--this includes the biggies like Warner, and when they are up in about 1 year (I think), expect the service disappear or a massive price increase to pay for the multimillion dollar licensing fees.

It's funny how slowly studios and such big players are able to understand such emerging markets, and greatly undervalue these licenses. Netflix has made a killing from their bargain bin cost for streaming. But it's about to kick into reality.

Oh well.

if only those poor fools knew the alternative to streaming is not renting but torrenting...

if you're a filthy dirty thief, it is.

Theft: the act of stealing; specifically : the felonious taking and removing of personal property with intent to deprive the rightful owner of it

Copyright infringement: the unauthorized or prohibited use of works under copyright, infringing the copyright holder's exclusive rights, such as the right to reproduce or perform the copyrighted work, or to make derivative works.

So that would make me a dirty, filthy, copyright infringe-er.

The only time I hurt someone with copy write infringement is when I get something (or help others get something) that would have otherwise been purchased.

Now you tell me: Was my house hold really going to purchase 100gb of tentacle rape porn a month?

From the CNN article/Starz Press Release

Starz said Thursday that its decision to end the talks stems from "our strategy to protect the premium nature of our brand by preserving the appropriate pricing and packaging of our exclusive and highly valuable content."

Starz, you guys are idiots. You will now be making less money, as people flock back to torrents and you spend more money on lawyers in a vain, futile attempt to combat it.

Starz is mainly movies right? So they think they'll see an uptick in DVD sales because of this? Because you're right, they're dreaming.

I'm sticking with streaming. I switched a few months ago from 3 discs + BR to streaming only and haven't regretted it a bit. For the price I am very happy with the selection. If there's something I really want to see now I'll hit up redbox or a block buster kiosk. Yeah, the streaming selection isn't the latest and greatest but for the price it's good enough. I tend to watch more TV series than movies anyhow.

The whole thing about Netflix was that it was on demand. Torrenting still takes time to download etc and illegal stream sites are not always up to speed. With the loss of instant streaming, whats the next alt?

Very smart move by Netflix to not rewew #Starz. . Very well played Reed

I hope it creates at least a little leverage for the future. But at the end of the day, Netflix is the one who needs these deals the most

The number of people who weren't already pirating, but would now start because of the Starz situation, is so small it wouldn't even be measurable. Whether Starz can make more money by not working with Netflix remains to be seen.

I think that the golden age of Netflix is over. They aren't going to get any more cheap deals from content creators and they will either have less content, or have to raise their prices. I think the cell providers and how they are handling smartphone usage have given us a preview of what will happen to streaming video - the end of all-you-can-eat usage and either higher prices for the heavy users or a cap on usage.
