Netflix vs. Blockbuster?

I've had Netflix before and was happy, but my GF wants the Blockbuster Total Access since you can return and get DVDs from the B&M locations. It sounds good, but how is the online service? As good as Netflix?

Also, caused by the thread today about no TV service - I evaluated our TV/Internet needs and downgraded from TW Digital Cable + Road Runner @ $113.79 (after taxes) a month to Basic Cable (have my own HD tuner to get locals in HD) + Road Runner Lite @ $39.84 a month. :beer:

Never had Blockbuster but would recommend it over Netflix who will throttle you worse and worse as you stay with them. To be able to go to the store and swap out movies as many times as you want is a huge advantage.

Never had block buster, but as long as you do not get throttled NetFlix is great, and I have no complaints.

Netflix has a lot more titles than blockbuster.

But blockbuster has the total access now. You can also use the E-coupon they give for games as well.

I'm currently on the 1 month blockbuster trial and I may continue it.

I got about 5 more days left.

I use Netflix. Had them for about 4 years now. Never been throttled either. I average probably about 12 movies a month. They also added HD-DVD and Blu-Ray which is a big advantage over BB if you're an early adopter of either format.

I've had both in the past year.

Netflix ALWAYS sent me the first movie in my queue, even new releases. Blockbuster routinely sends me as low as 5 or 6 in my queue, even when higher selections are listed as available. This may have more to do with the local distribution centers than the services themselves, however.

Blockbuster has Total Access, and this is why I'm with them now. Huge advantage that easily trumps the queue variances mentioned above.

I really don't see any reason to be with Netflix unless you must have HD or Blu-Ray.

I have too much of an ethical objection to blockbuster to choose them over netflix. Throttling or not, blockbuster's product placement changes and other methods that negatively impact the artistic integrity of a film piss me off. I'll never forget the evening I rented requiem for a dream and saw in big bold red letters "edited edition" on the title sequence. That was the day I became a man. Something like that, anyway.

netflix all the way, without netflix leading the way bb would still be not carrying unrated directors cut films or wide screen. it was netflix that pushed them to actually carry stuff movie lovers care about. before that bb was just corporate greed trying not to offend and not caring about silly things like aspect ratios never mind all the shens they had with late fees.. i cannot support bb, i'm glad netflix is around. some of us remember what it was like before netflix and we had to suffer with blockbuster. it was horrible.

Blockbuster. Since they've added the in-store rentals, it is vastly superior to Netflix. Especially if you are close to one of their stores. You can almost double the amount of movies you rent.

Never tried Netflix but I am completely satisfied with my BB plan. The in store drop off/pick up and 2 monthly coupons that can be used for games is perfect!

I just signed up for Netflix again two days ago. I went ahead and signed up with the 6 out at one time. I hear that if you have the higher priced membership you should not get throttled as badly as one who only has say the 3 out at one time. Anyways with 6 out anytime that should keep me busy and I should not be returning them too quickly.

I live 5 minutes walking distance from Blockbuster. Therefore I say Blockbuster. Their online service isn't too bad.

I won't support Blockbuster. It's run by fundamentalist Christians and they restrict what material is available accordingly. I have only had Netflix for a few months but I've been very pleased with it.
