Netflix vs. Blockbuster?

With BB still carrying that porno "Pirates" on the shelves, the total access is a no brainer, at least for a trial. I picked up five rentals today(2 free coupons on my antiquated account), & with the grace period, I can keep them till I do my food shopping again in nine days. Maybe I'll go again in three days with my next three mailers. I think the limit is something like 12 out at once.

Blockbuster doesn't edit ANY movies that they receive from the studios

For many years they wouldn't carry X-rated or unrated films. It appears they may have changed that since they opened up their online service, but I still hold them liable for carrying a crappy, watered-down selection in their stores, and killing off a lot of better locally-owned video stores.

I switched from netflix to blockbuster because blockbuster has that total access thing now. Definitely worth it. I go in with my watched movies in their envelopes they give me free rentals for them, and when they scan them at the register it shows online that they were returned and sets the next movies in queue to be shipped.

Selection is better than before.

just looked at BB's new offering, I guess you can return and rent from their B&M, for the one monthly fee, seems to beat netflix hands down. I don't know about their selection though

I don't understand why Comcast or someone doesn't offer such a service through digital cable. Instead of pay-per-view just add like $15/month to your bill for unlimited movies, or 30 movies/month or something like that. I would prefer that option if it existed as I don't have to fuss with mail or leaving the house, just pick a movie when you're in the mood and go, in HD if available.

Netflix hands down for much better selection. I love how I can get just about any TV series.

I'm picky and don't watch crappy movies, there's no way I could find 10+ movies a month that I wanted to get at the local blockbuster.

I'd rather get the movies through the mail, instead of waiting 30 days for the movie to appear on PPV

I've had both Blockbuster and Netflix. Netflix wins.

Blockbuster has small selection and slow shipping times.

Netflix has a very large selection and fast shipping and returns.

I have had BB for some time now and the total access is very nice. HOWEVER...the new website layout SUCKS my balls.

For one it is extremely slow and none of the menu's sort correctly as far as I can tell (i.e. when you want to list them by rating...ect).

I would like a different interface to the website...more exposure to the new titles or popular titles...it never seems to change when you go through the lists...just the same movies over and over.

TW Digital Cable here offers Movies on Demand for 3.95 per movie - I don't know about the selection tho, as I don't have it!

A couple months ago I would have said Netflix, but Total Access gives Blockbuster the edge now, IMO. I always thought when BB first started doing the mail-in movies to compete with Netflix that they should be taking advantage of their stores to sweeten the deal somehow, and that is exactly what they are doing now. It is true that Netflix may have a better selection and also may be faster with the shipping, although from my experience with BB the shipping seems to have gotten faster now with returning movies in-store. And the instant in-store rentals and once a month coupon are great.

I would say if you live near a Blockbuster definitely go that route over Netflix.

For the record, there are two versions of that movie produced by the studio - one rated R an an experiment in broader market distribution (Blockbuster, etc..) and the "uncut" XXX version available via mail order, sketchy book store, etc....

Blockbuster only carries the R rated version in stores so set expectations accordingly.
