***FVCK** Netflix and their throttling schemes.

BB will bury Netflix with their new plan. Not a good time to be a Netflix shareholder.

I just cancelled blockbuster.com

I like the total access concept. it beats the whole waiting thing but the online selection sucks. Plus the search engine stinks too.

Delivery times are even since they both have distribution centers here in san jose. so I get them in 1 day. 2 for the really old movies.

Also, caused by the thread today about no TV service - I evaluated our TV/Internet needs and downgraded from TW Digital Cable + Road Runner @ $113.79 (after taxes) a month to Basic Cable (have my own HD tuner to get locals in HD) + Road Runner Lite @ $39.84 a month.

We're doing the same - but upgrading - I was thinking about going up to a Digipic package, but I think we'll just go with standard cable. Have you noticed a big difference in RR Lite vs. High Speed? I don't like paying 45/mo for HS.....

Well, they changed my plan yesterday, but I get the actual service change on Monday. PM me and I will let you know.

Well TWC cut off my basic cable service yesterday - the Dish installer should be over today. We kept our standard RR, but when I called to cancel my basic cable, I asked if they could do anything about the price, and the guy dropped it to the intro price for 6 months - 29.95. Better than nothing!

I had to pull the tv's/furniture away from the walls so the installer can get back there - guess that means I don't have an excuse to *not* clean my cabling up now...

I noticed someone has already mentioned it but for any of you who posted about the pirates movie...have you actually rented it?
Obviously rated R - shows nothing except T/A

Not that the X rated copy is anything special to begin with but just imagine a porn with all the hardcore sex taken out yet all the horrible plot left intact....mmmm tasty :disgust:

BB was slow... but the total access thing is interesting. I'm not sure I like it anyway because I don't like blockbuster in general.. ha. I live right next to a distribution center, so my voting may be skewed. Still surprised to see blockbuster pulling ahead.

so for TA, you can get next in queue at the store, or they just immediately send out next in queue and you can take your free rental? I'm curious as to how long they can offer that freebie... seems like they'll lose a whole lot of money and have no way of really making any profit (while keeping the B&M stores open).

I was Blockbuster, but their lack of unrated selections is really pissing me off. I don't want to see some lamo cut versions of movies.

I joined last month and they were fast for shipping, although I didn't really get anything brand new.

This month, I switched to the 2 per month plan and NOTHING is shipping. I have 5 things in the queue.. at all times, at least 2 things say AVAILABLE NOW, and the rest say short wait.. yet NOTHING ships.
I only have about 2 weeks now for this month and I haven't received a single movie.

I wonder what AVAILABLE NOW means to them?

I get throttled by Netflix at least 3 times a month now. I'll mail back 3 dvds at the same time, but they'll report recieving 2. so I wait the six days and report the other one missing, the very next day i'll recieve an email from Netflix, "we've recieved the dvd that you reported lost in the mail"... WTF?!?!!? happens everytime... the only time I wasn't throttled was when I Had the 8 dvds at a time plan.. (I was confined laying on the couch for a month after foot surgery.)

I joinded Netflix for $9.99 this week for two reasons. 1) I searched both sites for a few foreign films I know of and Netflix had more positive results than Blockbuster. 2) My local Blockbuster just folded so that competitive advantage disappeared for me.

I just recently went back to Blockbuster. Thank god it was a free trial. Their service is garbage now. I put in my queue seasons 1 and 2 of I love Lucy. They actually send me season 2 first! They send all three discs supposedly on one day. I get 2 on Saturday and 1 on Tues.

I send discs back on monday. They don't send the new discs out until at least wednesday. They prob won't arrive till Friday.

When I had netflix. They never really messed up teh queue orders. I'd send a disc back on monday and I'd get a new shipment on Wednesday.

I have no experience with either, but if I were to choose one, I'd choose blockbuster simply b/c of the Total Access In=store deal.

I'm confused why you're upset with the delay between returning your discs and receiving the next ones in your queue. It's pretty standard for mail to take at least 2 days to reach its destination through USPS (so two for them to get there, and two for them to send you the new discs). The wait your describing seems reasonable to me. Was Netflix any different?

I think for mainstream titles that it's pretty much a wash. I've had both and it seems that Netflix has a bit more obscure stuff.

One area that Netflix trumps Blockbuster though is in Anime. My fiancee is Asian and loves to watch anime so we stick with Netflix for that reason.

Blockbuster with Total Access was a disaster.

They often took days to release movies from the queue after returning the online dvd to a store. Had to call them after 3 days to get one release too.

Turns out its been a national problem.

I use netflix because I don't want to deal with driving to the store to return movies. BB total access seems silly to me. Netflix also is fatser to ship movies out after receiving my returns, usuallly the same day - not so with blockbuster. movies are generally in better condition, and only BB has sent me the wrong movies( I had both Netflix and BB for 3 months).

you don't get it right away when you join. I just got netflix a few weeks ago and they say I will have it by June. Not that I mind, but just so people know.
So far I am liking it, they are quick I think. Swapping takes 2-3 days, so if I put it in the mail monday afternoon, I'll get a new one on wednesday or thursday. I had blockbuster a couple years ago, and I remember they shipped movies out of order.

Netflix is a no brainer for me when paying, but I've been getting Blockbuster free for several months now so I can't complain too much although their turnaround time and dvd availability is inferior in my experience.
