This looks like a very hot deal, but i'm scared of the New Rochelle processing center. If you do this deal, make sure you keep tabs on your rebates.

I have purchased many items with rebates that go to New Rochelle processing center, and never had to call in order to get my rebate. The waiting time is a little longer than the other rebate centers but it does arrive.
These seem to be very good deals for "G" wireless. Very tempting.

those URLs are taking me directly to a paypal page, or something that claims to be a paypal page. Warning: If I were you I would not be entering my paypal password on that page under any circumstances. This has scam written all over it. I see http://https//shop1.outpost.com/product/3635275 as the url when I mouseover the router link, but it goes some paypal look-alike page?

The correct link is: http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3635275 . I never understood why links get messed up like that here.

You get PayPal because, for some reason, http://https goes to the PayPal site. For me, http://http goes to Microsoft.

I use these all the time in my business and I've never run into 1 problem with any of them. I've probably bought like 10 of them in the last 6 months.

nice... I was about to pull the trigger but found a post on FW that it can possibly be $15.99 if 2 rebates go through buying at buy.com instead. Even if they only allow 1 rebate, the cost of doing that is $8 more than outpost.com's deal. I think it's worth taking the chance @ buy.com's deal...

Summary (router + pc card):

buy.com (free shipping):
w/ 1 rebate: down to $50.99
w/ possible 2nd rebate: down to $15.99

outpost.com:
w/ 1 rebate + shipping: down to $42.83

The WG511 is a good card. Good performance, good range. Get the latest drivers (2.5) if you get the card and want everything to work right. The WG311 is the same chip, which is a plus, but a built-on antenna, which could be a problem compared to having a short cable to an outboard antenna.

Rebates are through TCA rebates, who has a well deserved bad reputation. Outpost doesn't have a stellar track record either.

I bought one a while back and it did not work correctly at all. I didn't even use the wireless function of it. Would have to reboot it every 2 hours. I'm tempted to try it again.

Yup, talking about this g router.

What version have you been buying and possibly where from.

I am afraid of getting a problem child.

Does anyone know if these are refurbished items at buy.com or outpost.com.

The reason why I ask is that I am figuring that if it is not a refurbished item it would increase my chances of getting the latest version ... which I would hope have all the kinks worked out.

The one that gave me problems that I bought from buy.com and returned about a month ago was a version 2.

The rebate form listed on outpost.com says "not valid for outpost.com". Does anyone have the rebate form that is valid for this?

I must be missing something.

The Outpost website states that the router is $59.99, after rebate: $19.99.

Selecting the "download the rebate" link downloads a PDF indicating that the rebate is $20. ... making this router $39.99. What am I missing here ?

Thanks for pointing this out...I was ready to order one, but not if the rebate is only $20

I disagree with Fry's and Outpost.com's rebate policies which seem to be designed to make as few as possible percentage of people claim the rebate. They overcharge, then make the rebate super-huge, and give you a very short period of time to send it in, and throw in other complications - such as the wrong rebate form on the website.

Plus I have had the New Rochelle rebate center refuse a $50 rebate (62.5% of the purchase price) from Fry's before. I sent the rebate out the very next day after buying the product (I believe the requirement was 7 days - ridiculously short!) They claimed the date was missing on the receipt, but never contacted me. I found out about it from wheresmyrebate.com, contacted them, re-sent a copy of the receipt (which was a REBATE reciept and VERY obviously had the date printed on it), and then they "accepted" the submission, but never sent the check. Called back, they said the check would be sent soon. Called back again (this is at least 6 months after initial submission) (why can't these people use email??!!@) - they said I would have to contact Fry's, because the rebate has expired with SMC (WTF!). I contacted Fry's, and after stopping by a few times at the store I purchased it from, and a number of phone conversations (mainly they don't seem to answer the phone very often), I still have not been able to get the rebate... My time is MUCH more valuable than THAT!

If you still want to purchase these products, you have until tomorrow to do so, and PLEASE, only buy if you intend to be VERY persistent in making them pay out the rebate - These products are NOT a good deal if you don't send in the rebate, and make them pay you. If 90% of people claimed these huge rebates, then we as consumers would be demonstrating that shady practices don't pay off.

After contacting service@outpost.com directly, they emailed me the rebate form:
I have uploaded it here: http://insanediego.com/sek/rebates/3635275-06252004.pdf
IF YOU HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED THIS PRODUCT, PLEASE CLAIM THE REBATE!

Their bogus(?) excuse for why they would post such a huge rebate with the incorrect form:
We apologize for this inconvenience.

We have already contacted our Product Marketing team to have the
incorrect Netgear rebate form removed from our site (it does not start
until 07/01 anyway). I have attached the appropriate form to this
email. Please note that their current offer expires on 07/01/04.

Please note that the rebates posted on Outpost.com are manufacturers'
rebates only. All redemption is done through the manufacturers' chosen
fulfillment company. Please contact the rebate fulfillment center for more
information or to track the status of your rebate request.

On my order, the WG311 PCI card shows up as backordered. Do you suppose they will extend the cutoff date on the rebate (for me it would be 7/15/04) because of this?
