I JUST want to still be able to host my website and ftp like I did before when I didn't have this router... people would type in the IP and get in like a snap, but since I got this router, It changed my two comp's IPs to 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 which are local IPs...

how/where can I change the settings so that when someone sends a request for a FTP connection on port 99, the router will auto-forward the request to the local address 192.168.0.1 port 99 and actually get the signal get THRU w/o blocking it?

how can I do that on HTTP? where I need to forward requests on port 80 from the router to 192.168.0.2 ???

please help!

hey it looks like ur very knowledgable about these Broadband Routers... I found the menu you were talking about SUA server setup for the Netgear RT311 to forward port requests from internet users...

my main computer's IP is 192.168.0.2 and i'm hosting a site on 80

so when i type in my real IP http://realipaddress , it STILL doesn't forward the request to my 192.168.0.2 machine and the router intercepts the message and thinks the user is trying to get INTO my router and asks for the Username and Password! That's just like when you first install the machine and the instructions tell you to log into the Router's ROM by goin to http://192.168.0.1

same thing w/ my FTP, when people request to login from the Internet, the router intercepts and thinks they're trying to get into the ROM setup again!

I even tried different ports so that to see if there's a conflict between port 21 or 80 of the router and port 21 or 80 of my comp

but say my FTP was on port 99... and i requested to log into ftp://userass@realipaddress:99 for some reason the router just doesn't forward that request to 192.168.0.2:99 at all! I just dont get any kind of response

I tried to restart and it still doesn't forward... should I unplug the router or something?

Try putting the router on DMZ ...
Make sure that port filtering is not what causes all the confusion.

Also make sure that user permission is right.

Have you read through the more detailed manual (a .pdf file) at netgear's site? http://www.netgear.com/support/support_rt311/rt311ref.pdf It gives much more info than the paperwork that comes with it. I imagine it's on the CD as well but I didn't even open that up.

I'm pretty sure it describes how to do it. I do remember it saying that there are some default filters set up, so maybe you need to open up port 80.

Also, the DMZ comment is probably a way to do this. There is a way to tell it to by default, send all incoming traffic to one of your machines. If you set that up as your server, it should work (assuming traffic isn't filtered).

But you shold be able to JUST forward port 80, not all traffic, to your server and still be ok. Security wise, this way is probably a bit safer (if you're worried about it).
