Decent deal...I got my rangemax 240 yesterday.....and I freakin love it....was up and running in like 30 seconds...even downloaded new firmware for me...... Netgear...I love you......no really.....I Loooooooooooooooooooooooooove you! Seriously........LOVE YOU!

This is the exact one I have that has been giving me Sh1t since the day I got it. There are days it will go on all day with no problem and then there are days the pos keeps booting me off the internet and I have to reset it and my dsl modem. It boots my kids off all day on the wireless, on and off all the time, their computers are 15 ft away from me and they are lucky to get 1 yellow bar if they get a signal at all and then its always on off on off. Then at times when my wife turns her computer on, wired, it shuts the entire network down and I have to reboot both the Network and the DSL modem to get it all back on. And then there are just times your surfing the internet and then whamo your off having to reboot again. It has pissed me off for the last time and I have a Linksys unit coming and cannot wait to pitch this piece of crap.

And yes it is updated to the latest firmware and have always updated it to what ever new one comes out when it comes out and always check every week. I have called tech support (you get it for I think 60 days, after that you have to pay) and they were no help, I had it, my kids had it playing online games at nick.com and be in the middle of one and be off, then 3 seconds later be on then 2 seconds later be off again. 15 feet away and getting hardly any signal at all, no walls, NO obstructions, one big ass open room, and Im done with it finally.

i have similar problems as above but mine happened later. it was running fine for about 1.5 years. now i have to reboot the router at least twice a day if not more. upgraded firmware, change everything back to default, etc. still problems.

Yeah I've fried ever netgear wireless router that I've used in 2 days or less. I think I'm at 3 or 4.

So is it really hard to find a good, basic wireless router? I just want something for my home, I don't need a lot of extras, bells, or whistles. Is there such a thing as a wireless router that does the job with no hastles and no frills? I am having a hard time finding one that has good reviews and without a ton of people complaining how poorly it works. I have used a wired SMC Barricade 4 port Cable/DSL router for years and have never, ever had a single issue with it. Never had to reset it, nothing. Its small, its reliable, and it works.

The Linksys WRT54G has been around for ages....in computer years. You're always gonna have somebody cranking 'cause they can't flash the firmware, drops signals, won't transmit to Siberia or whatever. Couple that with wireless inexperience and an occasional bum unit, and there's a lotta bad reviews. My current unit has been running 24/7 for 2 years and I've installed 5 for friends. If ya get any router not working for ya, take it back.

Well thats actually the one I have coming with a matching usb thingy along with it. I hope I wont be having the same issues. I read up on the dropping using bit torrent stuff, which I dont, so as long as that really is its only issue I should hopefully, and my wife and kids, will be happy not being booted off randomly all times of the day and night.
