New construction home, so I don't think it's a case of old fusebox or lots of crossed wires and noise. Is there a way to get them to more consistently connect?

What providers are currently offering connections over the power lines? I've heard of this but not any providers.

LOL at the 2nd post, this is for their internal network.

As for the connection problems I'm not sure what to tell you. I've been to a few homes that used this setup and they all had connection issues. The obvious things to try would be to make sure the adapter is not on a surge supressor of any kind. If possible plug it into a wall socket without anything else plugged into it. Do you have any sort of power filtration in your new construction home? This could also affect the ability of the adapters to function properly. As an alternative have you considered wireless? Its generally more reliable and new WPA encryption makes it more secure.

Ironically, this is to extend a wireless network. Have a WRT54G for the office over the garage connected to NetGear HPA to get Ethernet to main part of house where a WAP54G provides wireless.

It could be that something else in the house is causing a lot of interference on the electrical lines. If the connection is intermittent you might try and figure out if there is a certain device that is running when the connection drops. I have a very limited understanding of powerline networking however, I think it uses frequency ranges on the power line that aren't supposed to be touched by normal AC power. I don't think these frequencies are regulated though, so your new washer or microwave might interfere with the frequency range that the adapter wants to use. At this point it looks like it'll be a lot of trial and error to figure out why the connection is so intermittent.

They should include a CD that includes encyption software, once that is set there shouldn't be any interferance. I've been dealing with a lot of these types lately, can't remeber if this is the brand where you can set the network name (aka encryption) or not.
