Netscape released to beta testers an early version of a much-anticipated browser that takes advantage of the recent and wildly successful Mozilla Firefox 1.0 release. It's no surprise that the Netscape 8.0 (beta) runs the Gecko engine that also powers the Firefox browser. But there's a surprise in this early version: the future Netscape also renders pages in Internet Explorer.

edit: (Rant) I hate how when I go on Firefox, certain IE pages don't render properly.
Maybe this version of Netscape will solve a lot of headaches. (End Rant)

It's pretty good so far. The pages render pretty fast. It is kind've cluttery but something I could get used to.

Edit: It also takes up 2x the amount of memory that Firefox does.

So? Unused memory is wasted memory. I guarantee Netscape will use less if needs to.

Uh....why is it that when I tell it to open a new tab, it just brings me to my home site in the current tab?

find as you type
tabbed browsing
renders w/ IE
integrates nicely with gmail

cons:
stupid mutha fvckin' splash
slower loading
can only search via netscape.com
ugly ass skin
cluttered

But I cant open a new tab and have it go to my home? In the options, I told it to go to home when a new tab is openned. However when I tell it to open a new tab it just brings my current tab to the home page.

I'm using it now.. Kinda cool overall.

Loaded very fast for me, but overall surfing isn't as fast as firefox with the speed hack.

I just don't like you HAVE to use netscape search..

Nope, this belongs in software.

Why don't you go create a new website called forums.whiningbitches.com and you can make your own rules. And you can create 9,039,329,848 different subforums so that every subject imaginable fits into one of them, and then ban people when they post in the wrong one.

Through the very same about:config used to speed up Netscape, you can change the default search to google. I have done it once before on Netscape 7.1.
