Netwoking Linux knoppix and XinXP

I'm tryin to set my lap and my desktop on a network but they don't see each other.

Any tip? I'm a rookie on networks so please don't go too pro on the explanations.

ok, i haven't used knoppix before....but the application I use on my linux to get it talking to windows via the network neighbourhood thing is Samba.
