So my computer starts acting up and it's coming time for a spring cleaning anyway, so I decide hey, why not fomat and start with a fresh install of XP?

Stupid move on my part because now my network adapter isn't working. And by not working I mean like Windows doesn't seem to have a driver for it. Now this is a Dell Inspiron 6000 and I had it do a search on the "Reinstall Windows XP" cd as well and still no luck. NOw i certainly can't have the computer go check online for the driver either because I can't get on the internet since my network adapter isn't installed. So.... What do I do?

Thank you,
Kyle

Your computer should have come with a driver CD. It's easier to use that than download the drivers.

Also you can download all your drivers from Dell's website. Just go to the support section, select driver download, and enter your service tag number.

There are SEVERAL drivers you'll need (if you use the generic XP drivers you'll have a LOT of problems).

Very first driver you must install (and it must be first) is the Intel Driver for the motherboard. Without this the video card won't work properly and manu mobo devices like USB 2.0 support will not work right.

Then you want to install drivers for the video, sound, network card and modem. DO NOT use any of the XP generic drivers. Install the Dell drivers even if XP found a driver for them.

If you're posting this msg you obviously have a way to get online. You're going to have to go to Dell's website and download the driver from there.

Clearly you have some form of access to the internet, so can't you download them where ever you are, put them on a floppy, and load up the drivers.

I don't know what you want us to tell you. You don't have the original driver CD, you don't want to access the internet from another PC to get them... so then what... "Yes... you can pull the drivers out of your ass, you just have to reach really deep in there"
