network cable unplugged

My internet connection no longer works. The network card is listed in the device manager, but the error message says "network cable unplugged" I know the network cable and cable modem are good. I've tried reinstalling the network card drivers. I'm using windows 2000 and a 3com card. Is there anything else I should try before getting a new network card?

Open your Network Connections, verify the LAN connection is enabled.

Sometimes a network card will be zapped and windows will still say that it is working fine when in reality it is not. Try a different nic or move the existing nice to a different pci slot.

If you have another network cable, try it. Otherwise try moving the nic to another slot as amdskip suggested. You can also go into network properties and try and repair the connection.

I doubt it is the cable, because usually when something screws up with a cable, it is not every wire. When I had a cable with one bad wire, it reported that I was plugged into my lan. Fixed the cable and it worked fine. If you have not changed anything, I would guess it is the NIC. Follow the suggestions made.

Thanks guys, I picked up a new network card ($5 AR) and it's working again.
