Is there a differance in performance between 10/100 network cards?
No name=$25cdn. 3com=$75cdn. ect.

for the most part, no. some may disagree.

if you want a name brand nic with something that isn't a cheap realtek type chipset, go for this:

More expensive, brand NIC's will use less CPU cycles than the cheaper ones. They usually perform better in a large network.

For small networks with reasonable fast PC's, a cheap NIC with a RealTek chipset is usally sufficient.

Wasn't there some debate a while ago though about how accurate the tests given there are because of the testing methods and circumstances on how the nics were tested?

I believe a card to be a card to be a card, but there is some truth to the driver sets and how much overhead they have. I would recommend going with the cheaper cards (Netgear/Kingston) unless you're running a server. Then I'd go with 3Com/Intel. Happy Trails.
