[SOLVED] Uninstalling Avast premier fixed the network connection.
I'm trying to help a friend fix his computer and I'm pretty stumped. The machine is a windows 7 box. It stopped connecting to the network. I'm not sure why. No specific event to mention.
I'm pretty sure it's a software problem with Windows. I pulled the hard drive out and put it in a working computer and it still couldn't connect to the network. Vice versa I put another drive and OS on the computer and it was able to connect to the LAN. Also tried a new LAN card and wireless dongle. All the same results. Other computers on network and same router work fine.
IPV4 and IPV6 not connecting. It sees the network but can't get a IP address.
I'll list all the things I tried.
Flush DNS
Reinstall network drivers
Tried manual IP config
Command line Ping fails
Checked BIOs settings, looks ok.
Booted in safemode with networking, didn't work
Shutoff all firewalls
Windows repair did nothing.
Windows automatic troubleshooting recognizes that it isn't getting an IP address and can't fix it.
I read a lot about this and even a system restore didn't work for most people, or windows reinstall.
Looking for some ideas.
thanks
