Hello,

I have This router. It works very nice for the most part, but has problems when either the phone rings or someone accesses the network for files. It will d/c for a bit and then reconnect. One computer is hardwired, and two computers are wireless. I use a Motorola cable modem.

I was wondering if anyone would know the possible cause of this. I am fairly new to networking and wireless connections. Any help with getting this network more stable would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Ok I changed it to a different channel. Now the phone doesn't bother it at all, however I am still getting random drops. :frown:

Oh and I was wrong I'm using the WHR-HP-G54. I hope this helps.

Interesting. I have the exact same router, flashed with dd-wrt, and have the same issue. Just periodic drops.

In addition, my range sucks. I get more than 30 feet from the router in the house and I can't connect - I see the network but when I click connect it never can.

Those are all indicators of noise/interferrence.

change channels to 1, 6, 11 to see what works best.

Ok, I have it on channel 11. I'll put it to 6 and see how that goes for a while. Thank you for the suggestion.

Do a site survey (Status / Wireless). See what other channels are being used around you. Try to pick one that isn't so common. 1, 6, and 11 are the best for lack of interference.

You may just have a bum router.

Or he's got so much noise in his area that wireless just isn't possible. It happens.

If you switch Off the Wireless in the Router, is the same occurs with the wired connections?

The most notable times it will d/c is when someone is accessing files via the network. This will almost always cause the network to d/c including the wired connection. It reconnects it's self very shortly afterward.

How would I do a site survey on the stock Firmware?

I haven't tried turning off the wireless in the router, I'm at work at the momment. Just to be clear, you want me to turn off the wireless in the router and see if the wired connection disconnects from the internet?

No matter what channel I put it on I still get drops. It pretty much only happens when the computer upstairs tries to open a video file from the other wireless computer down stairs. I've tried all the channels and it still happens. Arg!

Well I talked to Buffalo about it. They told me that the biggest problem with wireless interference in the home are 2.4Ghz wireless phones. We had one sitting by one of the wireless computers. I took that away and it works fine so far. Apparently only 2.4Ghz phones cause the problem 900Mhz and 5.4 Ghz phones are fine. Still can't find out why the card upstairs only connects at 54Mbps though.

Thanks

To work at the 125 Mode the card has to be Buffalo 125 card.
