I just got my first Macbook Pro and Mac Pro and have a question about Network Drives. I have several network drives that I want to connect to and have available at all times. The issue I've found is there isn't an easy way to do this like on Windows!

I generally do the Command + K and add the SMB address to the server and add it. I save my doman/user/pass to my Key, so you would think that they would stay connected at all times and reconnect after logoff/shut down, but they disappear and do not come back.

So I read on the internet that you need to add them to your login item list and they will appear. Well, that's true but the problem is that they folders open up on login and i'm stuck having to close 5-6 folders every time I login!

Something else suggested using an alias solution. But when you have an alias on your desktop you end up connecting to the drive and then you have the server drive on your desktop as well as the alias.

Is there seriously not an easy way to just map a freaking network drive, have it always connect and not have to dick around with closing folders or creating shortcuts/alias?? What am I missing here.

That and the lack of an actual lock screen are pissing me off Mac just seems so not ready for a corporate environment.

Add to the login items as described and check the "hidden" option. Instant mount without open windows.

At the top in the middle of the window when browsing to the network drive, notice the little icon there? Drag it to the desktop. Done.

I'll have to try that. I assumed "hide" meant it was hidden totally. I never checked it. Thanks!

Is there anything like a Windows lock screen? I've been using a screensaver that requires a password, but that seems silly to have to use.

That tried to copy the network folder to my desktop when I did it.
