Networking Career Advice

Well time has passed and I have a job now.
I got a level 1 position involving tech support across Canada, installs/repairs/fixes, and various other projects.
I'll work my way up as well as continue to obtain certs.

Not sure who says CCNA is an easy exam because Cisco rasied the bar over the past year or two that thing is now a PITA.. Stuff from the CCNP exam moved down to the CCNA such as BGP and isis... So CCNA does hold some weight these days.. Just not enough to get the really nice jobs..

The CCNA exam is not easy. I took the exam. I failed.

Cisco put out exam objectives for the CCNA exam. However, the questions in my CCNA test, a lot of them, are not covered, not even in my Network Academy class. I do plan on taking the test again

I would move away from CCNA and look at Brocade Fiber certs...SAN administration is the buzzword of the industry right now.

Reaching back into the thread, EMC certified Associate level is fairly easy if you are into that sort of thing. Storage networking opposed to conventional networking.

Try getting in as Level 2 or level 3 tech at the phone company/ISP, or similar company. I got myself a student job as Level 3 tech and it's great, I want this job for when I'm done college, pay is decent too. But that depends on the company. Also, you don't have to deal with customers much. We have external clients, but they don't call us directly, they call the L1's then they file the tickets, then we respond to the issues. My job is mostly projects and such. It's a job that never get's boring, and there's also challenges and also a great way to learn more about networks, etc. I probably learned more in my first month, then I did in my first college year. Hopefully I'll learn more second year though.
