Okay... should have done this ages ago... tried the same tracert, etc from a different PC on the same LAN and I get the same result, so it seems to be something with the router. So... I unplugged it for 30 seconds, plugged it in again, and that didn't fix anything.

Now I'm going to plug the cable modem directly into one of the PCs... If I don't come back something bad happened! lol...

It's likely the router has something resident in it's ARP cache. Leaving it disconnected for a while should clear that out.

If that fails, you could always do a factory reset on the ah heck

OOOOH! Progress! Now I'm getting the same dead website message everyone else is and I can tracert the url! All I did was disconnect the cable modem from the router while I tried to get the PC hooked up directly to the internet (didn't work... was getting some funky IP address)... but all seems well at the moment... just need to figure out why the hosting isn't serving up the pages.

Now for the REALLY great news.... this particular site uses a MySQL database. That database resides on my server here in the basement. That means I've figured out how to him my MySQL database from outside my server, which means I can retain tons of STATS HISTORY and not worry about having the hosting service charge me oodles of money! That makes me happy in several ways Time to start the rework/rewrite of the stats to accomodate BOINC :thumbsup:

Most routers wont operate right with another dhcp server.

Nope... I agree... but I wasn't doing that... there was something funky with the router... every other page/site I pinged/loaded/tracert-ed worked fine except that one.... seems once I unplugged the router from the internet connection for a bit, it reset something, and now it's happy

YEP, that was the ARP cache on the router. It maintains a local lookup table so it knew the local address of the domain. When you changed the domain to a different provider, the router retained the local address.

So, whenever you tried to browse the page or ping it, it was trying to use a local address. Turning off the router for an extended period of time clears the cache.

Glad you got to the bottom of it and learned some other valuable stuff along the way

Cool! Funny thing is that I didn't turn off the router... just moved the RJ45 from the cable modem directly to the PC instead of through the router.

But definately some great advice and lessons learned! Excellent group of TeAm-mates! :thumbsup:

It is part of the RFC that you have one AND ONLY one DHCP server for a network.
