Networking security expert?

Ok I know I have someone trying to hack into my computer. I want to find out if there is a way that windows xp logs the incoming internet addresses. Is there also a way to capture and log network intrusions?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am running windows xp sp3. I am wired into a linksys wrt54gs router which then goes into a motorola cable modem.

One of the signs after I have installed a software firewall is that I am getting a popup. The popup says that someone is trying to connect to my pc via a remote connection. This has happened twice now. The last time was this past Thursday night. I have been blocking those requests but would like to see where those requests are coming from.

I have also noticed that the pc activity light on the cable modem blinking rapidly to indicate pc activity when there is no one using the internet. All the pc's connected to the network are off.

The third which I do not know if it is interrelated or not is that there are some individuals which are not friends that know about files I have on my pc without ever having physical access to my pc.

The Constant Blinking of the cable modem is part of how the Internet cable system works if you have a Router you should Not be concerned about it.

Win XP has remote assistance system if you do not need it switch it Off.

If there are other computers on your private network you have to check their setting and make sure that none of them generates such request.

If your Router has a uPnP capacity and you do not need it Switch it Off.

As for the Internet.

Since you have a Router, unless you set it specifically open ports that are associated with Remoter request toward your computer's IP, traffic from the outside should Not reach your computer.

There is No point to try to track this incidences because there are constant probing like this on the Internet most done by automatic bots and they do not attack you specifically since you are on Dynamic ISP connection and No one really knows that "you is you".

That sounds interesting, but maybe they just heard about it from your friends or something.

Some software firewalls will pop up alerts declaring that there is an attack taking place when all that has happened is a packet has hit your machine on a certain port. In the case of Norton and Macafee I think the alerts are meant to scare you so they keep buying their products.

netstat -a in command prompt will give you the IP's of what type of traffic is going on your computer realtime.
