My bank in Sioux Falls, SD, is hiring a Systems Engineer to assist me with managing Windows and Linux servers in a VMware Infrastructure environment. Our shop is pretty small at the moment as we have 4 HP BL460c's running off a 24 disk HP EVA4100 SAN which is then replicated using Continuous Access to our DR site in Omaha which is the same setup. Cisco and SQL knowledge would be a plus but not required. Looking for someone with 2 years experience.

No clue on the pay but I'd guess it's upper $40k to lower $50k.

I just wanted to thank everyone for support I received here by PMs when I first lost my job back in November. I just got a call yesterday and will be starting a new position in early February. I had actually had two offers previously, but they were in St. Louis (I live in the KC Metro area) and my wife and I decided we liked KC enough to stick out the unemployment thing a little while longer.

If you're unemployed right now, my advice is to keep your chin up, keep constantly looking for that dream job, and you'll eventually be rewarded. I'm looking forward to a couple of weeks of just doing nothing except enjoying my family before I go back to work.

Another side piece of advice is to truly get 6 months worth of expenses socked away in a savings account or other safe and liquid asset. Proper emergency money planning (although luckily we really didn't have to even touch our savings thanks to my previous employer's severance + me immediately filing for unemployment benefits) really took the pressure off of me having to take the first available job that came my way, and ultimately allowed us to stay where we love to live. I know it is hard for a lot of folks to put back that much money, but the effort is worth it if you can swing it at all.

Best of luck and my prayers go out to all those still on the job search.

Yeah, we do. As tough as it must be to find a job, finding an internship must be just as hard.

Anyone know of any opening(s) in Vegas?

I'm not too sure about the environment in that area, but where I work everyone is nice. FYI the RRC is "fiscally conservative" I've had to bring my own pens and a few other things to replace the crap they gave me to use.
Good Luck to those hunting!

I was talking to some people here in San Diego and they said that there are computer user roups or something that recruiters typically go to looking for job candidates. They described it as being more like the Homebrew Computer Club that Bill Gates threatened over using BASIC on the Altair than a job fair. Unfortunately, none of those people could point me to any. Anyone know what they were talking about? I've done some rudimentary searches and haven't found much yet. I'll continue on...

Used to be in Fresno, CA. Moved to Oxnard, CA this past week.

Attended Heald College in Fresno for A.A.S. degree in I.T. with an emphasis in Network Systems Administration.

I had about 8 classes left to get it, had to drop a while, then had to move back to Oxnard.
I am seeking transfer of credits to a local college. I was thinking ITT Tech as the two
community college computer programs don't seem to have the classes geared for IT / Networking.
Eight classes can be knocked out from my Heald transcript to ITT.

I have MCP Windows 2000 server from 2005, and A+ from June 2007.

Internships, or entry level computer support/tech/network is what I am seeking prior to obtaining the full Associate's degree.

I have done computer sales for Circuit City as a seasonal temp, computer fix-up for Goodwill for a couple weeks on a temp project, and a two 2-week projects for TAC Worldwide
tech staffing firm that had a Dell project working with the VA hospital in Fresno doing hardware change-overs. I have friends that know I am into this stuff so they ask for
help. I have also built my own computers from parts for my own use.

I do not own a car, as how in the world can I pay for one without the regular income of a good-paying job?

This one thing has kept me from falling back on pizza delivery, for which I worked for the US western region pizza chain, Round Table Pizza, for 7 years. It also kept me from
getting an on-site computer repair job from a place back in Fresno.

Anyone with a BS degree in Computer Engineer, Computer Science, EE, etc is more than welcome to apply at Raytheon. This economic downturn isn't really having too much of an effect on this Defense Contractor. I joined straight out of college (Software - CS major) and have really enjoyed my experiences.

If anyone is looking in the Dallas, TX area, I'd be happy to help expedite a resume for you. Ability to get a DoD Security clearance is almost a requirement, having an existing one is almost an instant in.
