Yeah, we're looking, probably for 2 full time devs, and a few interns. Internship periods are normally 3 months I think. I can't guarantee any programming for internships, but I am personally requesting that we get an intern in to do some software testing.

Devs - we need preferably C/C++ & Delphi, but really if you're willing to learn, hey.
Interns - programming experience preferred, otherwise any sort of pursuit in digital forensics helps.

PM me if anyone is interested. Also - relocation is not out of the question for full time devs. I moved up here from FL last year... so they do it. But local candidates preferred.

(Note: I am not a recruiter, I am a dev here...)

If anyone in the OH, PA, NJ areas are looking for work, keep an eye on First Energy and subsidiaries. They are planning on hiring a lot of people over the next few years because of their aging and retiring workforce, something like close to half of them are retiring in the next 5 years or so! Saw an article in the newspaper a little while back.

Job Opening at Yahoo! For A Database Engineer (Los Angeles)

My friend works for Yahoo! and they're hiring (this position is available immediately). If you or anyone you know fits the bill for this position, feel free to contact me and I'll pass along your info to her.

"---- DBE skills we?re looking for

Database Design
From the Job Description
5+ years experience developing relational database solutions using Oracle
Proven experience designing and implementing scalable OLTP and DSS database systems
Strong analytical skills including the ability to transform complex business requirements into a successful system design.

Experience with database design tools such as ER/Win or ER/Studio
A database engineer needs to be able to look at application requirements and translate that into a scalable working database implementation. The size and scale of our systems isn't found in a lot of shops, so finding people who have the experience to design something that can sustain our throughput and size can be challenging. Background in data warehousing environments and understanding of the core differences in that type of data model is also critical. Knowing when to normalize, know when to de-normalize and knowing how to make the transition is always a challenge in design. Java engineers (no knock against them) do not tend to think in terms of how the database works, having a database engineer involved early in design can streamline the path to scalability, but that engineer needs to be involved early in design and be able to speak with confidence as to the reasons behind design decisions being proposed.

SQL and PL/SQL Programing and Tuning
Expert in database programming (PL/SQL, triggers, and stored procedures)
Demonstrated ability to support analysis and decisions with data
Experience using Oracle?s wait interface to assess and address performance issues
Experience with Oracle 10g and RAC
PL/SQL is not really a difficult language to code in. However, understanding the relationship between SQL and PL/SQL and the impact on what the database is actually doing under the covers is the critical skill that a DBE must possess. Having a mastery of SQL involves not just being able to get your query to return the result set that you are looking for (although that can be challenging too), but more importantly understanding the steps that the RDBMS is taking in order to present that data. There are several coding methods that should be employed, and lots that should be avoided in order to make your database scream. Having a mastery of such things as analytic functions, methods to batch DML operations, and strong understanding of locks and waits are the skills that separate the DBE from the PL/SQL coder.

In order to accomplish this the DBE should have a tuning methodology that is more than "this query goes faster". Understanding the wait interface, the impact of RAC and supporting SQL tuning efforts with actual data of what the DB is doing is imperative to success at this level."
