I still cant figure out why my computers cant see each other.

I am using a crossover cable trying to networking 2 computers both using winXP pro. Comp1 has 2 nics, one for cable modem and other for the network. Comp2 just has 1 nic but in device manager there is a network adapter, i disabled that thinking this was causing the problem, but it isnt.

Right now comp1 only see's its self in "Entire Network" and same goes with comp2. I have right clicked on " My Documents" and sharing. I have checked both bottum boxes to share this folder on the network, i did the same thing on comp2. I have ran the network wizard acouple times trying to click different stuff but no luck and yes for both comps the workgroup is MSHOME.

Someone told me to create a "share" but the person didnt explain this very well to me. He said click on the drive then share then "new share" and i couldnt find that. I went to computer management and shares but I couldnt find a option to make a new share.

** i am trying to share files and internet connection. And I dont have any firewalls running. The firewall on my nics are turned off

Thank you for any help

Sorry for the short reply.
Bag network neighborhood for debuging.
Use Ping.
Ping 127.0.0.1
ping yourself
ping the other pc.
report the results.

Did you assign IP's statically? What are the IP's of these machines? What do you get if you ping computer 2's IP from computer 1? Is the link light on on both of your NIC's?

i didnt assign ip's statically. Where do i go to find out my ip, then where do i go to assign the ips? The link light is "on", on both of the nics.
