NetZero logon thru DSL modem?

I'm trying to check out NetZero, but I'm not ready to give up DSL.
The logon goes thru the motions of dialing and checking, but
never logs on. I'm using W2000, could it be the w2k dialing procedure?

I think you'll need a phone modem to connect to netZero.

edit: It appears you just want to check out Netzero dialup not access an existing account. If so, you may have to let your OS/Browser know which method you want to connect to the internet. You will have to change this from the device (network/USB to DSL modem) you are using to the dial up modem. Not sure how to change this in w2k (some version of internet properties) maybe others can help.

Do you have an account with Netzero? Do you have an account for DSL? I am assuming since you have a DSL modem then you must already have a broadband ISP. In that case, netzero is not for you. All the benefits of using netzero are ONLY for dialup users. And even then, you can get it all from any ISP, just a matter of choosing who's cheaper. They are all gimmicks. If you already have DSL, and already have an ISP, it would be a massive downgrade to switch back to dialup. Netzero is only dialup.

I do have a DSL account, and I oppened a NetZero account to
check it out.

I'm an old guy that now only checks to see if I have an email
from one of my grandchildren. $30 a month for DSL seems much
for that! When I was more active on the net it was fine.

I'm not ready to buy a dialup modem, disconnect the DSL,
just to check it out. But maybe that's what I should do.

mitsu, if you just want internet access for light surfing and to check email you could certainly save $20 per month by using one of the budget ISP services. Netscape and Netzero both offer $10 per month access. 56k modems like this one from Newegg are only $12 shipped. Zonet V.92 56K PCI Data/Fax Modem . You also may find one cheaper in the FS/FT forum.

If all you are doing is checking email, I'd suggest Juno. It's what my grandma uses, and that's all she does. It connects to the internet, grabs your email, then disconnects. Doesn't tie up the phone line. But you will need a dialup modem for Juno or Netzero, as they are ISPs for dialup users. $30 for DSL might be 3x the price of dialup, but it's also 3x the speed. This can be useful when someone sends you pictures maybe, or you want to send someone pictures. Constant notification of new email. Much faster browsing for when you do go to a website. Might be worth it to you still.

Does your DSL provider offer a basic/lite DSL service? It's usually faster than dialup, doesn't tie up the phone line, and somewhere in between the price of dialup and full DSL.

Echo. I would never give up my cable connect for anything slower. I might hurt myself if I did.

I guess you guys are right - I'm keeping DSL.

You can hardly buy a decent bottle of Scotch
for $30 anymore!

I remember $30 in the 30's - that was a lot of money!
