I''m doing these benches for my "Best Old Card Project" on my website http://hardwarebenchmark.googlepages.com

I was surprised by what i saw.

This is the Lost Coast ( HL2 is supposed to be a ATI game ) in built benchmark on highest settings . Rest of the machine in sig.

Yes that is 8600GTS 256MB up there with x1950XT . I never expected 8600GTS to be this strong and so much better than 7800GTX .

Used 8.8 Catalysts for ATI benchmark and 177.41 for Nvidia Benchmark .

ADDED : Lost Planet Snow Level DX9 Benchamark . AA as not been enabled as Nvidia Cards 7 series cards are not able to do so .

You're most likely cpu bottlenecked in the HL2 benchmark. Overclock or put a stronger cpu and see the x1950xt separate from the 8600

It makes no difference; having the fastest CPU available it does not magically remove all CPU limitation.

The point is you're testing 1280x1024 in a four year old game known to be CPU limited even at released.

Now it could well be the 8600 GTS is competitive with the X1950 but you can?t infer that from such low resolutions.

Like bfg said at that res you are cpu bottlenecked. You can prove this by adding a much stronger card like a 4850/gtx260 and get similar framerates. Or you can overclock and see fps rise linearly as you increase speed.
