Never watching Football live again

So past few weeks I decided to DVR Football games (49er fan here).......and I cannot believe how little there is to actually watch once you skip through all the commercials and BS.

I watched the entire game in under 30 min? If I was to subtract all the skipping time, I'm guessing there would be maybe 10-15 of actual action/game?

I'm never watching football live again. What a waste of time. And why haven't I done that before?

it's a pain to avoid all the media coverage.

I sometimes delay my start for 1 hour if I'm busy. By the time I've finished fast forwarding, I'm caught up to real time.

the amount of time they actually spend playing the game is a joke. the same players don't even play both offense and defense.

If I'm going to watch a football game, I always start it about an hour after it really does. By the time I catch up to live, it is usually around the end of 4th quarter. The amount of ads and intermissions that take place really break up the flow of the game. I only fast forward ads, halftime, and random stuff like coaches challenges. It makes it a much better viewing experience.

I do this quite a bit. The hardest part is avoiding having the game ruined though which is why I'll often just DVR my local team for the first half or so and then start watching. Usually get caught up by the end of the game. It's amazing how much dead time there is in football.

This is why football has become less and less appealing to me over the years. Same with baseball. Hockey is my #1 sport to watch now. I'll watch any game that's on TV.. As a player I can really appreciate how good these guys actually are.

It's a piece of cake to watch just the plays and a little commentary and blow through a game in less than an hour and a half.

I've done it to only skip the commercials, but I don't skip the rest of the downtime. Flow of the game is all screwed up otherwise

That's about right. Studies have been done on that and they all come up with the same numbers. NFL games have about 100 commercials and 11-12 minutes of action.

I rarely watch anything live these days. Even scripted TV, which has a MUCH better program to commercial ratio that sports is still only about 40 minutes of program per hour. Record everything and watch it that way, much more efficient use of time.

It is a shock to the system having to watch the games with all of the commercials after spending the season with Red Zone. I usually have something else to do while the commercials are on like catch up on reading all of the gamblers and NFL people I follow on Twitter.

Yeah, I like having time between plays. I've watched games with all of the downtime cut out and it's just too much, too fast. I want time to think about how the game is going, analyze various big plays, bitch about the refs/coaches/players/announcers, etc.

If you cut out everything but the actual plays (snap to tackle), it supposedly averages about 11 minutes. That's not enough time to eat 5 lbs of nachos.

I've yet to watch a DVR game that is not the Super Bowl (first time was last year). It would be nice to skip commercials, but all the crap the announcers say in between plays is part of the experience to me.

If I just wanted to skip to all the action, I'd just watch highlights.

But, if I ever get a DVR I'll give it a shot.

Your nacho eating deficiencies are not our problem. Quit whining about it and practice more.

RedZone is almost too rapid. It doesn't give me any time to drink my beer. But as a general rule, RedZone is an absolute Godsend for football fans.

Add me to list of people that waits 30-60 minutes and then catches up by the end.

The PAC-12 network condenses some of the college conference games down to "Football in 60" minutes for re-broadcasts. That's handy for the conference games that I want to watch but don't care enough to record/watch live.

depends on how you watch the game. some guys like to see the different matchups and player subs/shifts when a team is trying to exploit a weakness. same thing for other sports.

if you're out with friends it's fun to chug beers and eat junk food for a few hours.

What is sometimes even more frustrating is seeing games live. You will be sitting there and all of a sudden they stop playing and are just standing around. You are like wtf who called a time out. Then you realize that it is a TV timeout. CRAP.

No matter what you say about football, baseball is 100 times worse. I would sit through the worst football game before watching a baseball game.
