In addition to the already revealed Roy Orbison, HMX is putting out two KISS tracks next week. I'm definitely getting Rock and Roll All Nite! I'm not too excited about the Roy Orbison; I have the first pack and it is good, but it pretty much had all the songs I wanted in it.

DLC Week of 4/26 - Roy Orbison 3 Pack & Live KISS Singles!

Hey gang,

Next week's DLC features two rock legends who couldn't be less alike. We've got a Roy Orbison 3 pack to celebrate The Big O's 75th birthday and 2 live singles from KISS, including "Rock and Roll All Nite" with a sweet Pro Guitar upgrade!

The live KISS tracks were both recorded during their 1975 'Dressed to Kill Tour', the same tour that ended up forming the epic 'Alive!' album. The versions we're releasing have actually never been officially released on any album, making this an awesome chance to hear two classic KISS tracks from their definitive live tour!

Roy's songs are the 80's versions from In Dreams: The Greatest Hits, similar to most of his previously released RB tracks.

Enjoy!

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation®3 system (April 26):

• Roy Orbison – “Blue Bayou”
• Roy Orbison – “Dream Baby (How Long Must I Dream)”
• Roy Orbison – “Only the Lonely (Know the Way I Feel)” X
• KISS – “Rock and Roll All Nite (Live)” X
• KISS – “Strutter (Live)”

(All tracks are original master recordings)
(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system April 27)

These tracks will be available for purchase as “Roy Orbison: 75th Birthday Pack” as well as individual tracks on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song
$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points™) per song
$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade
$5.49, £2.49 UK, €3.99 EU (440 Microsoft Points, 550 Wii Points) for Roy Orbison: 75th Birthday Pack

** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change. **

Great variety this week. Phish is one of the few RB artists that I actively dislike (well, besides all screaming metal), but Working for the Weekend with pro guitar more than makes up for it.

DLC Week of 5/3 - Culture Club, Loverboy, Phish, Faith No More & Stone Temple Pilots!

Hey gang,

We've got an excellent assortment of singles this week, with 3 tracks from the 80's and 3 more from the 90's. There's some straight pop, some alternative, some metal (funk metal?) and more. Personally, I'll be playing "Working For The Weekend" at every event ever until I am physically dragged off stage. Enjoy!

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation®3 system (May 3):

• Culture Club – “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me”
• Faith No More – “From Out of Nowhere”
• Loverboy – “Working for the Weekend” X
• Phish – “Stash” X
• Phish – “Tweezer”
• Stone Temple Pilots – “Big Bang Baby” X

(All tracks are original master recordings)
(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system May 4)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song
$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points™) per song
$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

GameInformer has an interview with Chris Rigopulos of Harmonix that reveals info about some upcoming DLC.

We have an amazing lineup of DLC scheduled for May, including new tracks from the Foo Fighters, Lady Gaga, and Ozzy Osbourne. First up, the Foo Fighters continue to add to their legacy with the release of their new album Wasting Light, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last week. On May 10, we’ll release a pack of their music, as well as two Pro Guitar/Bass upgrades to songs from the Rock Band catalog.

This second quote is a bit odd because it was my understanding that the maximum track length for Rock Band is 10 minutes. Perhaps they have cut it down to fit.

But I should mention that tucked in among these amazing May releases is a classic Peter Frampton track - “Do You Feel Like We Do” from Frampton Comes Alive. It’s this epic 13-minute jam with some blistering keys, brilliant guitar playing, and of course, the signature talk-box guitar effect.

This interview also confirmed that there will not be a Rock Band 4 in 2011.

Alright, as previously reported we get Foo Fighters next week, but with surprise singles from Lordi and Run-DMC. Now, I like and may even buy a couple of these Foo tracks, but don't we have enough FF in Rock Band by now? I will happily upgrade my Monkey Wrench DLC with pro guitar though.

Note that these tracks will be delayed for PS3 due to the continuing PSN outage.

DLC Week of 5/10 - Foo Fighters 4 Pack & Legacy Pro Upgrades! Plus Lordi & Run DMC!

Hey gang,

As some of you may have seen, we teased some of the May DLC in a recent article on Game Informer to a hugely positive response! We revealed upcoming DLC from the Foo Fighters, Lady Gaga and Ozzy Osbourne, though you'll likely see a few other surprises in the mix (like tracks from Lordi and Run-DMC!).

Here's the first look at the specific Foo Fighters tracks coming out next week, some of the most requested songs we've seen on the forums as of late! Enjoy!

Available on Xbox 360 and Wii (May 10) and PlayStation®3 system (May 19):

• Foo Fighters – “Long Road to Ruin”
• Foo Fighters – “Rope” X
• Foo Fighters – “Stacked Actors”
• Foo Fighters – “Walk”
• Lordi – “Hard Rock Hallelujah”
• Run-DMC – “King of Rock”

Pro Guitar Additions for Legacy Songs

• Foo Fighters – “Monkey Wrench”
• Foo Fighters – “The Pretender”

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system May 18)

These tracks will be available for purchase as “Foo Fighters Pack 04” and as individual tracks on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song
$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points™) per song
$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade
$6.99, £3.49 UK, €5.29 EU (560 Microsoft Points, 700 Wii Points) for Foo Fighters Pack 04

** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change. **

Lots of pre-announcements this month. The Harmonix podcast has revealed that a Pantera pack is coming the week after next, with these songs:

5 Minutes Alone
I'm Broken
Mouth For War
Walk

Wasn't this for RB/RB2? The song format changed when they switched to RB3-only DLC compatibility, IIRC.

I'm not a Pantera fan but this should make at least some metal fans happy, and there's one 70s track thrown in for good measure.

This release is delayed two days due to some server maintenance, so it's coming to Xbox/Wii next Thursday instead of Tuesday. When it's coming to PS3 is anybody's guess at this point.

DLC Week of 5/19 - Pantera 4 Pack & Peter Frampton!

Hey gang,

If you've been keeping up with the Harmonix Podcast you already knew that next week we're getting some kick ass Pantera DLC! Here's a link to the podcast page so you can catch up on past episodes and subscribe on iTunes so you don't miss out on future scoops!

Joining the classic Pantera tracks is Peter Frampton's legendary "Do You Feel Like We Do" from Frampton Comes Alive. Here's what renowned rock critic Wayne Campbell had to say about the album: "Everybody in the world has Frampton Comes Alive. If you lived in the suburbs you were issued it. It came in the mail with samples of "Tide".

Pay close attention to the release date for this DLC, as content is scheduled to release on Thursday May 19th, rather than the traditional Tuesday launch date. We have some server migration scheduled next week, so you should expect to see this batch of DLC on the 19th.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation®3 system (May 19):

• Pantera – “5 Minutes Alone” X
• Pantera – “I’m Broken”
• Pantera – “Mouth for War”
• Pantera – “Walk” X
• Peter Frampton – “Do You Feel Like We Do (Live)”

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system May 18)

These tracks will be available for purchase as “Pantera Pack 01” and as individual tracks on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song
$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points&#8482 per song
$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade
$6.99, £3.49 UK, €5.29 EU (560 Microsoft Points, 700 Wii Points) for Pantera Pack 01

** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change. **

Nice. There hasn't been DLC I've really wanted for a while, but this might be good. Haven't checked in on the RBN for a while either so maybe there's more stuff for me there too.

Mouth for War -- such a great riff, my favorite Pantera song. Too bad I won't be able to get it until PSN is back up.

GameInformer has an interview with Chris Rigopulos of Harmonix that reveals info about some upcoming DLC.

More details on the upcoming Ozzy tracks! There will be an Ozzy Osbourne 8-pack on 5/31. This an event for the release of Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman, so the track selections will likely be focused on those albums.

Huge question in my mind: the 5/31 re-release of Diary includes the Black Sabbath tracks Paranoid and Iron Man. I'd absolutely love it if those were included, but I have no idea if they will be, and the chances might not be good considering that Paranoid was one of the export holdouts from RB1.

Even more details direct from the Ozzy web site.

The Ozzy Osbourne 8-pack will include 3 remastered classics from each album including "Mr. Crowley" and "Over the Mountain" as well as additional monster hits "Bark at the Moon" and "Mama, I'm Coming Home" and their built-in Pro Guitar/Bass upgrades only available as part of the 8-pack.

I'm really happy to see BatM and Mama, but that last comment is a bit troubling. It sounds like a couple of the pro upgrades may be tied into the full pack purchase, which is a little disturbing. On the other hand, it also sounds like those pro upgrades may be free if you buy the pack, which would be a plus. So I'm not sure how I feel about that. It could all just be confusion from a poorly written news release though.

Though it's still unofficial, the track list for the Ozzy 8-pack on 5/31 is being reported on various web sites:

Mr. Crowley
Steal Away (The Night)
I Don’t Know
Flying High Again
Over the Mountain
Diary of a Madman
Mama, I’m Coming Home (pack only)
Bark at the Moon (pack only)

Notice the "pack only" designations? It seems that Harmonix is experimenting with pack exclusivity with this DLC, and they have released a statement about it:

So without confirming the entirety of the info floating around (we're still on track to announce the full track list and pricing next week) it's definitely worth providing some clarity on a bit of the language that appeared on Ozzy's site the other day.

Yes, there will be 8 songs in the Ozzy pack. Yes, "Bark at the Moon" and "Mama, I'm Coming Home" will be two of the songs in the pack. Yes, they will have Pro Guitar upgrades. Yes, these two tracks will only be available as part of the 8 pack. And yes, this is the first time we've done something like this. It's an epic release and people will have a ton of fun with these songs and it's exciting to be able to experiment with DLC bundling like this.

I think most folks upset about cherry picking those tracks will be a bit happier when they see the pricing for the 8 pack, especially with the Pro upgrades included. Even if some people are opposed to buying the full pack, there are still 6 classic Ozzy tracks available as singles, along with one additional Pro upgrade. It's shaping up to be a blockbuster week of DLC and we may have a few codes to give away to help promote like we did with the Foo Fighters pack. So keep an eye out for that!

So, I'm still on the fence about trading pack exclusivity for free pro upgrades, but I'll have to wait for the official release next week to see what the pricing really is.

Meanwhile, we are coming up on the DLC announcement for next week. I'm expecting a Lady Gaga pack, since that's the only remaining pre-announced artist for May. I have no idea what the content will be, but tracks like "Born this Way", "Telephone", "Paparazzi" and possibly "Judas" would make sense.

Well, that didn't take long, and I managed to get 2 of 3 Lady Gaga songs right. But the surprise was the best part - two great Foreigner songs with pro guitar! Finally, throw in a couple of pro upgrades for existing Alice in Chains and White Stripes to round out the week.

DLC Week of 5/23 - Lady Gaga 3 Pack, Foreigner singles & 2 legacy Pro Guitar upgrades

Hey gang,

Here's a nice batch of songs for all you hot blooded little monsters out there. The Gaga tracks should come as no surprise, as they were first announced in this classic Game Informer article a few weeks ago but the Foreigner tracks offer a nice side of singles for those of you looking for more straight ahead rock than angular pop. Whatever the geometry, it looks like good stuff to me. Enjoy!

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation®3 system (May 23):

• Lady Gaga – “Born This Way”
• Lady Gaga – “LoveGame”
• Lady Gaga – “Paparazzi”
• Foreigner – “Hot Blooded” X
• Foreigner – “Urgent” X

Pro Guitar Additions for Legacy Songs:

• Alice in Chains – “Rooster”
• The White Stripes – “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground”

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system May 25th)

These tracks will be available for purchase as “Lady Gaga Pack 02” and as individual tracks on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song
$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points™) per song
$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade
$5.49, £2.49 UK, €3.99 EU (440 Microsoft Points, 550 Wii Points) for Lady Gaga Pack 02

I'm curious how people visiting this thread play Rock Band. We pulled out our set for the first time in ages and had a good time with it, but I do wonder if interest has worn off for others.

We usually only play when we have friends over but I think that time now might be replaced by DJ Hero 2, You Don't Know Jack or Scene it.

Play time has definitely decreased. I used to play quite a bit when I lived with folks who also liked to play, but now that I'm living alone and don't know many others that play it I don't use it often. When I got RB3 and the cymbal pack I put a lot more time into it, but it's back to not being touched again. It's been a very long time since I've seen any new songs worth buying, so for me the game hasn't really changed for quite a while.

Obviously I'm not just the casual fan, but I essentially have 4 modes of play:

1. Casual solo - This is just "for fun" solo play, where I'll play either 5-button guitar (hard/expert) or pro drums/keys (medium).

2. Casual family - Same as casual solo, but with the wife and/or daughter involved (wife is always on vocals, daughter varies)

3. Pro solo - Playing the Squier, which pretty much has to be a solo activity because I'll be using trainers, stopping songs, etc. This requires much more concentration than the casual activity.

4. Party play - Full blown party play with friends, neighbors, etc. This is generally a great time, often there are 3 vocalists and people playing random instruments - I usually do 5-button guitar or pro drums. Keys are fairly popular for instrument novices.

I have not played much I think twice this month. This is way I never got the squire guitar.

I have thought about getting the squire and seriously learn to play real guitar but right now I'm hooked on pocket legends on my Ipod touch. I love me a good dungeon crawler and leveling my avatar.

It's still a big party attraction when I have friends over, but I've started playing solo drums (working on Hard now) and am finding it especially satisfying to rattle off actual non-open fills and drum rolls.

Not much new news today; the expected Ozzy 8-pack is coming next week. The pricing is $13.50 which is the normal price for an 8-pack, but two pro guitar tracks are included for free. Overall I'm not a fan of this bundling strategy. This is an experiment for HMX; I'm not sure if they will do it again or not. All that aside, this is a pretty awesome set of Ozzy songs so I will probably buy the whole thing anyway.

DLC Week of 5/31 - Ozzy Osbourne 8 Pack, Including Pro Guitar Upgrades!

Hey gang!

As announced in the Game Informer interview last month (you know, the one that broke the news on all the huge artists we've seen as DLC these past few weeks), we're releasing an Ozzy 8 pack of classic metal DLC next week!

The Ozzy Osbourne 8-Pack will include classics from the recently re-released Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of A Madman, including “Mr. Crowley”, “Diary of a Madman” and “Over the Mountain”. Fans who purchase the pack will also be able to play “Bark at the Moon” and “Mama, I’m Coming Home”, both of which are only available as part of the pack, and both of which include built-in Pro Guitar/Bass upgrades at no additional cost.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation®3 system (May 31):

• “Bark at the Moon” X (available only as part of the 8-pack)
• “Diary of a Madman”
• “Flying High Again”
• “I Don’t Know”
• “Mama, I’m Coming Home” X (available only as part of the 8-pack)
• “Mr. Crowley” X
• “Over the Mountain”
• “Steal Away (The Night)”

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system June 1)

These tracks will be available for purchase as “Ozzy Osbourne 8-Pack” and as individual tracks on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” have optional Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions available.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song
$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points™) per song
$13.49, £6.69 UK, €9.99 EU (1080 Microsoft Points, 1350 Wii Points) for Ozzy Osbourne 8-Pack
