Another early DLC announcement for Thanksgiving. Up next week, a pack for Roadrunner including a new Dream Theater single. Plus, an 80s classic "We Built This City" by Starship. Sure, it may be cheesy but I'm jumping on it anyway.

The cheesier the better! My favorite song so far is Paradise by the Dashboard Light, by Meat Loaf. There is no better guy/girl duet.

I was on vacation so this is a bit late, but Harmonix unleashed a totally unexpected surprise for next week - another awesome pack of Queen! I wish that this pack would have included some of the Highlander songs, but HMX has indicated that the movie tracks are more complicated to license than their other stuff. Still, I can't complain about great stuff like Stone Cold Crazy and The Show Must Go On.

DLC Week of 12/6 - Queen 9 Pack! Don't Stop Me Now, Stone Cold Crazy, Bicycle Race!

Hey gang,

On December 6th, nine songs from Queen – a legendary band whose career has had a lasting and profound influence on modern music across multiple genres – will hit the Rock Band Music Store.

The “Queen Extravaganza 02” pack will feature a wide range of tracks that spans the remarkable career of the quintessential rockers. From “Stone Cold Crazy” off 1974’s Sheer Heart Attack to the band’s 1991 single, “The Show Must Go On” from their 14th studio album, Innuendo, the pack bolsters an already impressive library of playable Queen tracks on the Rock Band platform.

One of the biggest rock acts of all time, Queen has released a total of 18 chart-topping albums and 18 #1 singles, while selling more than 300 million albums worldwide. In celebration of the band’s 40th anniversary, Queen’s entire 15-album studio catalog was recently reissued remastering work done by legendary engineer, Bob Ludwig. These must-have pieces of music history are available now on Hollywood Records.

Two of the songs, “Stone Cold Crazy” and "Bicycle Race”, have Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrades available.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii™ and PlayStation®3 system (December 6th, 2011):

I'm so glad there's finally an Opeth song on RB, it's really fun to play and Ghosts of Perdition is one of my fav songs from them. I got the new DT song too, it's one of their easier songs, I can actually get through it on guitar lol.

Whoa, this is totally unofficial, but I'm massively excited. RockBandAide is reporting that the French Rock Band store is displaying an item (currently not downloadable) called "Rush 2112". HUGE Christmas present for me if this turns out to be real DLC.

Queen followed by Rush?? Harmonix is ON FIRE! Surprisingly, this isn't 2112, but the announcement also says, "These three tracks are just the tip of the iceberg for Rush fans; we’ll have even more exciting Rush/Rock Band news before the year’s out, so stay tuned!", so I'm still hopeful for that.

I thought the Highlander\Queen songs were just Queen songs as there has never been an official soundtrack for highlander.

Harmonix seems absolutely determined to end this year with a bang as they keep rolliing out the mega-artists. Next week there is a new pack of Jimi Hendrix, including the classic "All Along the Watchtower". I'm not a huge Jimi fan, but I will definitely pick that song up.

DLC Week of 12/20 - Hendrix 7 Pack and 4 Pro Upgrades!

Named the greatest guitar player of all time by Rolling Stone magazine in its recent “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” feature, there are few unfamiliar with the legendary songwriter and performer Jimi Hendrix. The guitar virtuoso’s playing style redefined rock and roll, infusing his unparalleled technical ability with an extreme and experimental sound that wowed audiences, changing music history for decades to come. On December 20th, Harmonix is proud to be adding seven classic Hendrix tracks to the Rock Band Music Store.

1968’s Hendrix-produced Electric Ladyland album features some of the musician’s most popular and enduring songs. Three songs from this classic – “Long Hot Summer Night,” “Gypsy Eyes,” and “All Along the Watchtower” – kick off the pack. An incendiary live performance of “Voodoo Child (Slight Return),” recorded at the legendary Woodstock festival, is also included in the pack. The pack of seven tracks also includes “Dolly Dagger” “Freedom” and “Angel” from First Rays Of The New Rising Sun. These songs were originally recorded for 1971’s Rainbow Bridge and The Cry of Love albums.

Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrades for two of the tracks, “All Along the Watchtower” and “Freedom,” will be available. Pro upgrades for previously available Hendrix songs, “Purple Haze” and “Little Wing,” will also be offered. A full list of the extensive catalog of Jimi Hendrix songs playable in Rock Band can be found here.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii™ and PlayStation®3 system (December 20th, 2011):

• The Jimi Hendrix Experience – “Long Hot Summer Night” O
• The Jimi Hendrix Experience – “Gypsy Eyes”
• The Jimi Hendrix Experience – “All Along the Watchtower” X
• Jimi Hendrix – “Voodoo Child (Slight Return) (Live)”
• Jimi Hendrix – “Dolly Dagger”
• Jimi Hendrix – “Freedom” O X
• Jimi Hendrix – “Angel”

Pro Guitar/Bass Upgrades for Legacy Songs

• The Jimi Hendrix Experience – “Purple Haze”
• The Jimi Hendrix Experience – “Little Wing”

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system December 21st)

The tracks will be available as “Experience Jimi Hendrix Pack 01,” with all songs available for purchase individually on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii™. Tracks marked with “O” feature support for keyboards; tracks marked with “X” will offer Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

HMX announced 3 more artists coming as Rock Band DLC during a live streaming event yesterday evening, and stated that they will have 3-packs.

Bush
Hall & Oates
Huey Lewis & the News

Should be some fun 80s in there. I'm also still hoping that 2112 will be announced as next week's DLC.

Rush is my favorite band, so all I can say to this is: F#@$ YEAH!!!

DLC Week of 12/31 - Ring in 2012 with Rush's 2112!

Hey gang,

Harmonix today announced that Rush’s ambitious seven-part suite “2112” will come to the Rock Band™ Music Store of downloadable content for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Wii™.

In 1976, legendary Canadian rock trio Rush released their groundbreaking fourth studio album, 2112. With its opening track – a 20-minute, seven-part suite known as “2112” – Rush painted a picture of a sci-fi world in the midst of a revolution, controlled by technology. An alternate take of this epic suite, largely considered one of the most important pieces in progressive rock, comes to Rock Band just in time for the New Year.

“2112” will be offered as three separate playable packages: one combines “Overture” and “The Temple of Syrinx”; the second features “Discovery” and “Presentation”; and the final track brings “Oracle: The Dream,” “Soliloquy,” and “Grand Finale.”

Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 players have the option to purchase the single Rush “2112” pack, which features all three of the above tracks, as well as one, 20-minute marathon medley of all seven parts of the suite, exclusively available in this special pack. Additionally, as a bonus, players will receive Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrades for all three packages, as well as a Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrade for the medley for free!

Available on Xbox 360 (December 31, 2011), and PlayStation and Wii (January 3rd, 2012)

• Rush – “2112: Overture, The Temple of Syrinx” X
• Rush – “2112: Discovery, Presentation” X
• Rush – “2112: Oracle: The Dream, Soliloquy, Grand Finale” X

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system January 18th)

The tracks will be available as “Rush ‘2112’”with all tracks available for purchase individually on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii™. Tracks marked with “X” will offer Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$5.49 USD, £2.49 UK, €3.99 EU (440 Microsoft Points, 550 Wii Points™) for the “Rush ‘2112’” pack
$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points, 200 Wii Points™) per song
$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points™/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

Rock Band provides the deepest and best selection of artists, songs and albums through the Rock Band music platform, which features more than 900 artists and more than 3,000* tracks via disc and download purchase (complete list of tracks at www.rockband.com/songs). Rock Band’s gigantic music library dwarfs that of any other rhythm video game on the market. More than 100 million songs have been sold through the Rock Band Music Store since its launch on Nov. 20, 2007.

While I appreciate 80s music, I'm kind of conflicted about this pack because I'm not entirely thrilled with the song choices. I would have preferred You Make My Dreams and Rich Girl. Still, I won't be complaining about anything for a while after the sheer awesomeness of 2112.

DLC Week of 1/10 - Hall & Oates 3 Pack! Private Eyes, I Can't Go For That & Maneater!

Hey gang,

With a distinctive “rock and soul” sound, the musical duo of Daryl Hall and John Oates found some of their biggest success in the early 80s with songs that helped define an era. On January 10th, three of these pop classics come to Rock Band as “Hall and Oates Pack 01.”

The pack is led by two hits off of 1981’s Private Eyes, with tracks that burned up the Billboard charts – the song track “Private Eyes” and the soulful “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do).” “Maneater,” from 1982’s H2O, one of Hall & Oates’ most successful singles, rounds out the pack.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii™ and PlayStation®3 system (January 10th, 2011):

• Hall & Oates – “Private Eyes” O X
• Hall & Oates – “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)” O
• Hall & Oates – “Maneater” O

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system January 18th)

The tracks will be available as “Hall & Oates Pack 01,” with all songs available for purchase individually on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii™. Tracks marked with “O” feature support for keyboards; tracks marked with “X” will offer Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$5.49 USD, £2.49 UK, €3.99 EU (440 Microsoft Points, 550 Wii Points&#8482 for the “Hall & Oates Pack 01”
$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points, 200 Wii Points) per song
$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points™/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

Oh goodness, classic 80s cheese.

Too bad the downloads don't come with an Oates-style mustache to add to our avatars!

If the Edgar Winter Group has you saying "Who?", take a listen (links in OP!) and you'll have an "Oh that song!" moment. Light week for me, but I may get Free Ride.

DLC Week of 1/17 - Singles from Korn and The Edgar Winter Group!

In 1972, The Edgar Winter Group achieved commercial success with their fourth studio album, They Only Come Out at Night. The record contained two of Winters’ biggest hits – “Free Ride” and “Frankenstein” – both of which are headed to the Rock Band Music Store with full support for keyboards. A Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrade will also be available for the instrumental jam, “Frankenstein.”

More than 25 years later, metal band KoRn was getting its first taste of mainstream success. “Freak on a Leash,” off of 1998’s Follow the Leader, was one of the band’s most successful singles. The group found success again with its single “Falling Away From Me,” from 1999’s Issues, which peaked at number one on the Billboard charts.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii™ and PlayStation®3 system (January 17th, 2011):

• The Edgar Winter Group – “Free Ride” O
• The Edgar Winter Group – “Frankenstein” O X
• KoRn – “Freak on a Leash”
• KoRn – “Falling Away From Me”

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system January 18th)

Tracks marked with “O” feature support for keyboards; tracks marked with “X” will offer Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points, 200 Wii Points) per song

Up next week - just about anything you could complain that was missing from the previous excellent CCR 12-pack, HMX is delivering next week with an additional 3-pack of hits. I really like the 12-pack so I will pick this up.

DLC Week of 1/24 - Creedence Clearwater Revival 3 Pack!

Hey gang,

Creedence Clearwater Revival and their music resonated with audiences of the late-60s and 70s, with a rock and roll style that blended diverse musical styles into a tight and distinct sound. The band found success with songs that evoked imagery of Southern Americana… despite the fact that the band itself was from California!

Their first hit single, “Susie Q,” from 1976’s Chronicle, Vol. 1, first appeared on their self-titled 1968 album, and was their take on rockabilly legend Dale Hawkins’ influential classic. The group found further success with originals, including “Lodi” from 1969’s Green River and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?” from 1970’s Pendulum.

These three landmarks in rock history come to the Rock Band Music Store on January 24th as “Creedence Clearwater Revival Pack 02.” For those interested in a deeper dive into a classic, a Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrade for “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?” will be available.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii™and PlayStation®3 system (January 24th, 2012):

* Creedence Clearwater Revival – “Lodi”
* Creedence Clearwater Revival – “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?” O X
* Creedence Clearwater Revival – “Susie Q”

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system February 8th)

Tracks marked with “O” feature support for keyboards; tracks marked with “X” will offer Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$5.49, £2.49 UK, €3.99 EU (440 Microsoft Points, 550 Wii Points™) for “Creedence Clearwater Revival Pack 02”
$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points, 200 Wii Points™) per song
$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points™/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

Three singles next week, and Tears for Fears gets a thumbs up from me; it's a nice addition to Everybody Wants to Rule the World that came on disc.

DLC Week of 1/31 - Singles from Sum 41 & Tears for Fears!

Hey gang,

Canadian punk rock group Sum 41 got their first taste of success in 2001 with their single “Fat Lip,” off of their first full-length studio record, All Killer, No Filler. The group found similar success a year later with their follow-up record, Does This Look Infected?, with the lead single “Still Waiting” making waves on the Billboard charts.

Tears for Fears had a string of hits in the '80s, winning over audiences with its New Wave pop sound. “Head Over Heels,” the third single off of 1985’s highly-successful Songs from the Big Chair, reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii™and PlayStation®3 system (January 31st, 2012):

* Sum 41 – “Fat Lip” X
* Sum 41 – “Still Waiting”
* Tears for Fears – “Head Over Heels” O

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system February 1st)

Tracks marked with “O” feature support for keyboards; tracks marked with “X” will offer Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points, 200 Wii Points™) per song

As much as I like listening to Tears for Fears, I found that their stuff isn't ideal for Rock Band. It's almost a bit too "soothing." Kind of like playing smooth jazz on Rock Band.
