I have moved on from playing fake guitars. I just got Rocksmith and started to learn how to play a real guitar.

Another month, another RB3 DLC release! I'm not usually much into Tenacious D, but Rize of the Fenix is pretty fun (and if you want a laugh, take a look at the last few frames of the YouTube video linked in the OP). We also get Back to the Shack from Weezer, so this week has sort of a "comeback" feel to it. Harmonix hinting something??

TRACKS FROM TENACIOUS D AND WEEZER SNEAK UP, CLIMB THROUGH THE WINDOW OF THE ROCK BAND™ MUSIC STORE

Cambridge, Mass. – February 13th, 2015 – Harmonix today announced that new tracks from Tenacious D and Weezer are headed to the Rock Band™ Music Store of downloadable content for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.

Rock Band provides the deepest and best selection of artists, songs and albums through the Rock Band music platform, which features more than 1,400 artists and more than 3,500* tracks via disc and download purchase (complete list of tracks at www.rockband.com/songs). Rock Band’s gigantic music library dwarfs that of any other rhythm video game on the market. More than 100 million songs have been sold through the Rock Band Music Store since its launch on Nov. 20, 2007.

Tracks downloaded from the Rock Band Music Store are compatible with the award-winning full-band Rock Band 3 experience, as well as the controller-based rhythm-action title, Rock Band Blitz, available now on PlayStation®Network and Xbox LIVE® Arcade!

Rock Band DLC Additions for Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 system

After nearly a month of excruciating silence, new music will finally be coming to the Rock Band Music store for PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360!

Tenacious D’s “Rize Of The Fenix,” from the 2012 record of the same name, will get you rocking again on February 17th. Joining “The D” classic will be “Back To The Shack,” a single from Weezer’s latest record, Everything Will Be Alright in the End. Both songs will be available as singles on the PlayStation®Network and the Xbox LIVE Marketplace, as well as the in-game Rock Band Music Store on both platforms.

Available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 system (February 17th, 2015):

• Tenacious D – “Rize Of The Fenix”
• Weezer – “Back To The Shack”

Price:
$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU per song

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system February 17th)

** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change. **

RB4 is coming...

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/...n-2015-and-so-will-its-old-guitars-drums-dlc/

Not too surprising to learn that it's only going to be released on PS4/XBONE. But it's strange that they spend so much time talking about providing adapters for old instruments when most PS4/XBONE players probably don't have instruments anymore or didn't own the previous consoles.

New hardware support is critical to the success of the game, and there's nothing being said about that yet.

Just saw the RB4 announcement, awesome!!! This may force me to buy an Xbox One though, since I doubt my 360 song library will be movable to PS4. I'll probably do it though, that's how much I love RB/Harmonix. Darn those guys!!

Also, since this is the DLC thread, I should mention that there's a free piece of DLC for RB3 buried in that announcement:

To celebrate the long-awaited announcement of Rock Band 4, Harmonix is offering a free downloadable track. “I Still Believe,” recorded by UK-based songwriter Frank Turner for his fourth EP, Rock & Roll, is available now for download today, free of charge, on PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360®. Playable today in Rock Band 3 and Rock Band Blitz, this is one of the hundreds of songs that will be compatible with Rock Band 4 when it ships later this year for PlayStation®4 and Xbox One!

The article i linked mentions that all previous DLC will transfer to the new console of the same manufacturer at no charge. But going across manufacturers will not work. So yes, an XBONE is likely in your future!

Yep, it's been confirmed that songs are tied to your XBL or PSN account. So your 360 songs will transfer the the XB1 but not the PS4.

Here's a list of tracks that won't port over due to licensing issues.

Never realized they had still been popping out DLC for rockband. I pretty much stopped playing this ever since Rocksmith and Rocksmith 2014 came out (I had played guitar some in gradeschool through college, but my fingering was never good enough to play lead, and I had pretty much stopped playing until these games came out. I also picked up a bass when 2014 version was released and have been getting at least competent depending on the song).
