I wanted to make a new thread about jobs that aren't just about lack of degree or experience

May 2021 National Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates (bls.gov)

I was on this website above for employment statistics and arranged them by most common and pays a median wage ($45,760) and requires no degree or experience.

I think this will help kids figure out what career they would like do if they don't want to go to college.

Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers
Carpenters
Police and Sheriff's Patrol Officers
Computer User Support Specialists
Electricians
Licensed Practical and Licensed Vocational Nurses
Automotive Service Technicians and Mechanics
Plumbers, Pipefitters, and Steamfitters
Operating Engineers and Other Construction Equipment Operators
Welders, Cutters, Solderers, and Brazers
Correctional Officers and Jailers
Industrial Machinery Mechanics
Production, Planning, and Expediting Clerks
Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Mechanics and Installers
Postal Service Mail Carriers
So when you were in elementary school you were all about finding your career?

Welding, Plumbing, etc still require study and practice within the craft(along with being a shady salesman/property damager to milk more money).

Post Office worker, that less demanding of the mind...but mentally...well...going postal became a phrase for a reason.

Hmm... Where is the social media influencer, Twitch streamer option?

BTW, you could be arrested if you just show up at an elementary school as an uninvited adult and start handing out flyers. Yea. That wouldn't be creepy.

I was thinking I could pass the flyers out to homeless people as well.

The only jobs on there I see an idiot could do without experience is jailer, and postal worker. Postal workers are biased towards women and vets, and it takes a special kind of idiot to volunteer to put themselves in jail. They're the people who wanted to be cops, but couldn't even muster the minimal requirements for that. Next step is walmart cashier, but they don't pay as well.

Two big thoughts here:

1) this is a bad idea
2) don't do this

lol. Especially in today's climate. Gizmo would have to cops on him very quickly. Imagine a grown adult male handing out flyers to children.

I don't care if the intentions are good. You can't do that today.

You could hand out fliers to anyone and probably be okay. But as you have correctly pointed out: don't do it at a fucking elementary school or a place where you only have young people around, like a Chuckee Cheese.

Plus, an 8 year old is not going to be worried about what kind of job they should strive for in 15 years. Who knows what trades or skills will be most valued then, and also misrepresents the goals of general education (hint: it isn't job training).

Yea. in 15 years, I beleive that many of the jobs that are now common will be automated.

I printed out a bunch of flyers, instead of my old elementary school I'm going to skid row to pass them out to homeless people.

Im afraid if I go to my old elementary school people might think I'm suspicious.

Changing the thread title doesn't make it a better idea. Almost all of those are professional positions that require extensive experience, and specialized knowledge. Just because someone doesn't wear a suit to work, it doesn't mean any random dumbass can do their job.

Some of these jobs require a "apprenticeship" and/or a community college "certificate" but none requires a degree or experience in another field.

Your new idea is still a bad idea. The last thing unhoused people need is some patronizing person giving them a flier on median salaries.

You also are misunderstanding the root causes of homelessness. For many, it isn't because they can't hold a job - it's often because they can't afford expensive housing in the first place. And then when you don't have a permanent place, the problems start to pile up.

I retired as an Operating Engineer. The apparenticeship is 6,000 hours. Not just anyone can get into the apprenticeship. You need at least SOME experience to pass the written aptitude tests...and SOME equipment, particularly cranes, USUALLY require a crane operator's license, Class A driver's license, and/or crane certifications.

"No degree or experience" means you can walk in the door, and walk out with a job 10 minutes later. That's construction laborer, McDonalds worker, or retail clerk. There isn't a single position on that page that meets that definition.
