I looked at that a few days ago. My 40mhz SPARCstation 2 goes through 1 seti unit per 100 hours, I think that 5 hours a unit would be reasonable, as those are 50mhz MicroSparcs instead of 40mhz. There is little real world application for one though. Anything which needs that much processor power will be better run by either a large array of 64bit RISC cpus (at decent speeds), or a beowulf cluster. Each of those processors is about equal to 486s in other tasks, its just that non x86/PowerPC chips do so poorly in so many of the projects, and if I remember correctly, MicroSparcs are 32bit CISC cpus (they may be RISC). Anyhow, the SETI times would be pretty good, maybe even faster then a WU every 5 hours with that 2mb of cache per processor, but it would not compete with a machine (in terms of cost to performance)today in all likelyhood.
