this is a sort of modified post/refined post... or u can call it deal engineering, whichevers...

fry's has the western digital 60 gb for 179 minus 75 dollars mail in from WD. you can refer to that post here.

but you can sweet the deal by buying it with your AMEX card, and then PM'ing to the lowest priced retailer on pricewatch..

as of right now, u can get 179- 51 (amex pm) -75 dollar mail-in, bringing it down to like, 53 bucks! + tax also...

if you have some patience, the amex pm policy is 60 days... thats about almost 2 months which is plenty of time to drop this hd some more and then PM for an even sweeter deal! gotta have a bit of patience for that one though...

Your deal sounds good (assuming lowest price on PriceWatch is for the retail part.) The rebate, if my memory hasn't already failed me, does in fact go to Western Digital, however, is an exclusive to the Fry's Electronics chain (meaning you can't buy the drive from CompUSA and expect a fat $75 check in the mail.) Overall, sounds good, now if only my Dad had the American Express Blue card...

Oh shoot! whazzzzzup you're totally right, I completely forgot about that :-( When I went to get the drive, my Dad busted out his American Express Corporate card, and he kindly said, "I'm sorry sir, but we don't take American Express" I was kinda surprised, so my Dad busted out the trusty Visa. I completely forgot that Fry's belongs in a Visa commercial in the ad campaign where they say "Don't bring American Express because you won't get ...." insert whatever item you're purchasing "from Fry's Electronics"

Western Digital has one drive in that capacity/speed, but it has two packages.

Most of the drives on pricewatch are WD600BB. Drive sold at Best Buy is WD600BBRTL. The RTL part is for retail, the other version is OEM. The lowest price for WD600BBRTL that I see is $167, which is almost not worth PMing.

AMEX might approve PM for the OEM drive if you find a site that obscures part that it is OEM. Still, if one were to stick to valid PM, there is only very few bucks worth of difference. In fact, 10% coupon that BB had this weekend (if you are doing deal on BB) would push the price below that PM.

You are saying to buy from Fry's using Amex, and price match with cheaper places?

Coz Fry's doesn't take Amex (@ least, not in the Bay Area).
