Or, at least that was how it looked to work in the info sites that I was reading.
In the game, are there any saving throws that you can make to prevent a knockdown from happening to you?
You have a -4 penalty to HIT with a knockdown.
The target makes a Fortitude saving throw against the knockdown (taking into account any modifiers such as size, strength, etc.) and if it passes is shown as "Knockdown: Resisted"
But I usually use it against pansy ass mages. Stops them from casting any spells and once they're down I have like a +6 modifier to hit meaning their skull caves in instantly when I critical them with my Harbinger Kin Greatsword +3.
And FYI, Halflings should NOT use this feat. It does not work on creatures bigger than you. If that was so I'd be knocking down Fire Giants and Dragons, and that's just not fair...
I think the game got easy when I started getting multiple attacks per round - at LV19, I have 4 attacks with +37 / +32 / +27 / +22 to hit, each doing 2-12 + 17 + 6 + 3 damage. Since my sword is Keen (improved critical range) and I have improved critical: greatsword I do double damage about 1/3 of the time.. this ends up averaging 80-150 damage a round.. Muahahahaha...
