Go ahead, call me a troll, I don't care, it's not like my opinions are completely fabricated from nothingness and I have decided one day to abitrarily have a vendetta agianst apple simply because the thought crossed my head.
I hate apple not only because they produce overpriced AND HYPED, low quality, poorly designed, asthetically geared products, but because of what they stand for and what they do.
The people at apple and the apple zombies who would suck steve jobs' cock, if presented the opportunity are from what I've experienced are a bunch of pompous, self rightous, know-it-alls who believe they thought, did, said, or created it first and believe that everybody else who doesn't conform to their ideaology or the 'apple way' are ignorant, uncreative, conforming little drones that can't think for themselves.
This is why I hate apple and it's drones. Until 'they' realize they're NOT any better than the people they belittle and that they ARE infact flawed themselves and CAN accept the fact they DO have a superioirity complex is the day that I will support apple.
Flame Away Apple Zombies..
Don't get me wrong, I despise apple products in some of the same ways as you do. However, talking down to the Apple laptops as inferior products simply proves you have no fvcking clue what your talking about. ASUStek, quanta and possibly another manufacturer make all Apple laptops. The same OEMs that make laptops for various other manufacturers worldwide. Asus being - and a lot of people would agree - the best latop manufacturer out there, IMO. Who as far as I know, makes all of these newest MacBooks.
This is the same for everything apple "makes" since they don't make anything hardware wise - only have OEMs do it for them. Those OEMs are nearly always great OEM's in terms of quality, and always share components with a product that you would most likely rave about while talking down to apples even though its the same. By all means though, keep it up - pwnage of the year award is only a few more posts away
Edited: took quotes away to make post shorter
Yes because I remember the first asus computer I bought I thought of how awesome it was, oh wait... Designing a stable motherboard and designing a computer that isn't an electric blanket are two different accomplishments..
You keep saying that the apple laptops are of such high quality and that I have no clue as to what I'm talking about, now what about IBM, have you ever used an IBM laptop? If so, DO TELL! I wouldn't be surprised that you have since thats the only reply to this question with out looking like a fool. I've used tons of apple products, not a single one of which I've been impressed by.
Before I got my IBM T42, I was indifferent to IBM products, I did remember an IBM 600 series laptop that my dad had purchased that I strangely immensely liked but my encounter with it was cut short, only to never see or use it again. I didn't use an IBM computer until I got my T42, which I purchased solely on the advice of anandtech forum goers..
Out of all the laptops I've used which is quite a bit, (BTW if you're an IT guy who works on laptops, STFU, nobody cares, I've used a lot for a person who doesn't work in IT) I have to say the IBM laptops are absolutely Top notch, I've seen older T series in better condition than panasonic tough books, but that might not be saying much since they ARE put under vastly different conditions...

Good for you, I bet asthetics is a top priority when choosing a laptop, isn't it. I really doubt you'd pick up a 'mbp' because of it's 'quality' because if you did, you'd be an idiot. After hearing all the things that have plagued this generation, you'd still pick one up? I call shens, and if you WERE that stupid to pickup one over a T42, then you're just beyond help..Originally posted by: bigrash

dude, i own an ibm T42 also and while it's a sweet laptop, i'd give it up any day for a mbp or even a lower quality apple laptop. the only thing i'd miss is the fingerprint reader. just cause you have so much hatred for a certain company doesn't mean that you can't acknowledge the quality in the products that they sell. that's just being biased and ignorant.

Ours gets warm, but no lockups, and I've had it up and running since we picked it up. If you have any experience with Powerbooks, it is the same level of heat. Seems very similar to the Dell D600/610 line.
How sad...
In my experience with IBM laptops, I absolutely love them and make dell look like garbage, I can easily see how it would make the macs look like crap by the way you describe things and what I've heard.
The laptop should never get hot or even remotely warm, if it does, the cooling system ISN'T doing it's job. On my T42, under full load at full speed, the only thing that is hot is the exhaust heat (ya know, where the heat is blown out from the fan), otherwise everything else on the laptop is about ambient temperature.

Well I know many, many people (including some very high-up IT security professionals) that would disagree with you. Make no mistake, I'm not saying the Apple computer is the greatest computer ever to be had, and there are much better machines - but for the price I believe it is one of the best. Do I believe it is better than Dell? Wholeheartedly. OS X is a great operating system, it just takes a little getting used to. I even bought my mom a Mac Mini. She has this uncanny ability to crash any computer you put in front of her. It's been almost a year and the thing has never even froze up on her. She couldn't be happier.
The $300 goes to higher build quality and support, better cosmetic design (IMO), and OS X.

Understand that on the Dell E1505 there isn't even fan on most of the time, only under full load does the near silent fan even turn on. Its obviously thermally controlled.
I find that hard to believe, IBM and the 'former dell' have excellent support (in dell's case, 'used to'), even microsoft has excellent support but thats a different category in a way.. For a person who has dealt with technical support from various companies, I have to say IBM has one of the finest IF NOT the finest.Originally posted by: Acanthus

I literally sent in my thinkpad FIVE TIMES to IBM. They never, ever fixed it. I ended up getting a newer thinkpad after escalating calls and waiting weeks. This whole process took months. They were willing to work with me, but the bottom line is that they never fixed the problem.
When I bought my iBook, it came with a slightly damaged bezel (near the usb ports). I called them and was on the phone for a total of about 15 minutes (vs hours spent with IBM), and I had a brand new iBook within a week or so, and it was factory upgraded for free.
Personal experience with both companies tells me that Apple has better support. I also never had to get routed anywhere with Apple, I immediately spoke to someone who understood and spoke very fluent English, with IBM I had to get transferred around often.

Sounds like a unique experience to me.. I purchased a port replicator on ebay that either was malfunctioning or I didn't use it right, so I called IBM, they sent me a box, I put the item in the box, shipped it back and got another, all at no cost to me and was relatively hassel free. I got the port replicator and it worked fine since, I love it. Thats my experience with IBM.

Exactly. That's my point; everyone has different experiences. I'm going to venture a guess that you've never personally dealt with Applecare, yet you bash it.
One can't rely on conjecture to form a solid opinion on a company, much the same that one can't form an argument with no personal experience or solid fact to back up the statements. Learn this and I really think you'll be a happier individual.

Reapplication of thermal grease fixed it right up. Of course the case still gets warm, it is afterall made of aluminum. I own many Apple products and have never had an issue with any of them. Ever. Dual 2.0Ghz G5, iBook, 30" Cinema Display, G4 Cube, multiple iPods, MacBook Pro. Never an issue. Poor quality my ass. I've also never had a slowdown in OS X on any of my machines, and even the slower G4 machines could keep up with my faster X2 system running XP Pro SP2. I'm also not sure how you can say that the design is old and clunky from the 80's. It's slim and white/black. Looks pretty modern to me...

Where did I say it wasn't thermally controlled? The macbook and the dell E1505 I'm sure have thermally controlled fans but that doesn't mean they don't run hotter than they should. On the T42, when the fan is at full speed its 'near silent', and the laptop always stays ambient temperature everywhere else BUT the exhaust, THATS the way it should be.
The best part about this is that I don't even own a single Apple product.Originally posted by: Philippine Mango
