OK so I finally got round to testing the other 1800+ DLT3C CPU I bought.

New stepping
AXDA 1800DLT3C 9885366270121 JIUHB 0321XPMW

Old stepping
AXDA 1800DLT3C 9567346250245 JIUHB 0320UPMW

Not being one to move slowly I booted the her up at 11*217 @ 1.7v (2388Mhz). All seems fine so far and my ABIT NF7-S 2.0 is showing an idle temp of 43C with BIOS 1.9, so I don't know what temperature that translates to in real terms, isn't it around 5-10C lower than it shows on Hardware Doctor or something?

Well my old CPU seemed to max out at around 2.2Ghz so it's nice to see this one picking up the pace a little. I'll be testing for higher FSB's and a notch up on the multi soon, probably up to a max of 1.8-1.85v

I'll keep the thread updated as I go on, I'm hoping for 2.45Ghz or so, but for ir to boot up at 2.4Ghz @ 1.7v straight out of the box is very encouraging to say the least...

Am I excited? Yep, that's a fair description, i'm expecting good things from this chip...

Damn you are one lucky git!

I bought a 2nd XP1700 Tbred B a month or so ago & it wouldn't go any higher than my current XP1700 which maxes out at 2.04GHz @1.75v ,at least without going to stupid voltages!

Gimme your XP1800 now!

I have installed my OS about a hundred times while overclocked with no problems whatsoever. It's only not a good idea to do it whan your system isn't stable as corruption can occurr. If it IS stable then it doesn't make a difference.

And Carpe, i'm hoping 2.5Ghz will be possible, maybe more if I migrate to water-cooling. I've got a 9800PRO coming tommorrow, bet it screams with this chip!

actually,i read somewhere, heard somewhere, that your system justs acts funny if OS was installed while overclocked. nothing to do with don't do it cuz your machine might hang during the install

Hearing about it is one thing, but practical experience is another. It works fine, believe me.

If your overclocked system is absolutely stable you should be able to do anything with it, including an install of the OS. The problem is many people are running a system that is only 99% stable and don't know it. Looping Prime95, Memtest, and 3DMark are good indicators of stability, but by no means do they prove 100% stability.

I can take a machine that passes those three programs and still make it crash. A good stability test to try after passing these three programs is to run these simultaneously:

online with a 56K winmodem surfing
run Prime95
download some small files
play MP3's with the Windows media player graphics enabled
lan to another computer at the same time and transfer files
run the UT2003 flyby/botmatch benchmark.

These seemingly simple tasks done at the same time have brought many of my overclocked machines down hard. Many times a small increase in core voltage or a slight decrease in fsb speeds in needed, even though the so called stable machines pass the other three popular stability tests easily.

Wish I had the free time. Just install the os w/o the oc and then run the stuff you do till it don't.

Sorry about the double post.
I clicked the button to send the reply once, waited 20 seconds, pressed it again, waited 30 seconds, then cancelled. I have broadband so I guess the server just stalled.
