new 19inch monitor(suggestions plz)

The dot pitch is .21 (or .20?) in the middle but it gets noticeably grainy on the sides. I've replaced it once already thinking it was defective. Same problem with the replacement. I even went to Best Buy and their display monitor had the same graininess. Most people don't notice it right away, although I found it especially noticeable on white backgrounds. >>



I have the exact same problem with my Hitachi 721F. The sides just look horrible compared to the center. I believe the Samsung 955DF and Hitachi 721F are based on the same tube. I could be wrong though. Maybe I should just shrink the image to the size of a 17" monitor. I want to exchange it, but I am afraid they will al be like this.

You might also want to look at the Optiquest series of monitors too. They're made by Viewsonic and are a bit more affordable but still have very high quality picture.

Get a monitor, based on specs, not a name. For a 19", get a monitor that will do 1600x1200 at 85hz and is at least .24 dot pitch (.22 would be better). If you get one like that, 1024x768 will probably refresh at 120hz -- this is what you'll want for gaming. I have a Hitach CM753 and its a great monitor. I will definitely buy another Hitach in the future.
