New 2018 Ferrari Portofino

This car will replace the Ferrari California in it's lineup. I think it looks gorgeous.

I'm mixed, its not a bad looking car, but I think its a little too busy (although its not as bad as their other models in that regard). Ferrari's design language has gotten I think too aggressive and busy the past few years, some of their designs look TVR-esque these days. I feel like they could tone them down a bit and have more timeless designs, and then have special versions that take it to extremes. Weirdly, I think the more aggressive styling is because they tried going for more classically styled cars, and they just didn't translate from the sketches to the real car (the 612 being a good example, as is the California).

There are parts to the design here that I really like (that outlet behind the front wheel, looks way better than what Aston Martin did on the DB11), but have some nitpicks. That kink in the side sill, the headlights (feel like it needs to either be horizontal or vertical, not both; also the tearducts, haven't been a fan on those on any care I can think of), the way the corners of the front fascia openings are kinda rounded off in a weird way (the upper outer corners of the two lower outer openings). And then the rear side glass with the roof up (with the little part that's painted black).

OP, you should make a thread about the DB11 (not a big fan myself, like some parts, but looks like it's wearing a toupee) and the Zagato Vanquish (really like it, all the version, but the coupe and shooting brake especially).

Also the grille looks a little too squared off to me (but it beats that weird overlapping look the previous one had, where it looks like a plastic piece slapped over top the rest of the front). It also looks enough different that I wonder if we might not see a 2 seat version that looks more like the EXP10 and 12 concepts.

Oh, and anyone see that last Zonda? Looks incredibly tacky (the windshield looks like they just took a sawzall or grinder and cut it short, and then look at the horrible carbon fiber pieces that they riveted over the top of the rear wheels). I kinda liked the little flared lip they added on the upper edge of the rear fenders, but then they made them LED taillights for some reason. I'm not a huge fan of Paganis, but this really looks cheap and tacky to me compared to pretty much all other versions they've done.

I think the California was supposed to be their understated "classic" styled car. But people found it to be too boring for a Ferrari. You can definitely see some old Ferraris in the front, even down to that out of place squared off hood scoop. The little side gills were terrible and didn't flow into the rear fenders well, and the backend was just wonky looking. I think the California T though was a good update, it made the design more cohesive, kept that old school classic Ferrari look while fixing the issues with the original California (namely improving that little side gill/scoop and the backend). Er, I'd say the grille and headlights on the original are better as the T, they seem weirdly shaped, kinda pinched.

There's no such thing as "overstyled" when it comes to exotics... I wouldn't pay that much for something that looks timid and plain. To each their own though.

I'd drive the hell out of a TVR... or try. The Segaris is probably on of the most ridiculous-looking cars ever but I dig it and would buy. Proper handling for a change.

The other reason it looks like mazda is because that company is somewhat unique (more so in the past since it's been catching on) because they style their cars in sheetmetal instead of trim, just contrast the 3 or 6 to their flat sided competitors. This makes for a certain look esp in otherwise practical body shapes, which this down-market ferrari is to an extent. It doesn't have the basic "elegant" (but wasteful) proportions as the long-nosed FR cars or racy MR's, and thus kind of looks like how a beefed up miata might appear.
