I think you're a little confused.
The Apple iPod is used mainly as an mp3 player which can also be used to store files. There's also some built-in games and a calendar/reminder application.
A PocketPC such as the Axim runs the Microsoft PocketPC OS, has a color display that allows touch-screen access to applications such as calendars, tasks, contacts, games, system utilities, etc. The PocketPCs typically have expansion slots that allow you to add memory to the PocketPC so that you can use it as storage or an mp3 player or movie player, etc. However the amount you can store on the PocketPC is much smaller than the 20 to 40GB you can store on an iPod.
iPods also offer superior sound quality over most PocketPCs, while PocketPCs offer more processing power than an iPod. Although the devices can do similar things, they focus on different areas. The iPod is an mp3 player that can function as a storage device and a limited PDA. The PocketPC is a PDA that can function as a storage device and as a limited mp3 player.
What you pick should depend on what you want to focus on... Productivity is the realm of the PocketPC, MP3s are the realm of the iPod and other hard drive based mp3 players.
