Ok, so here's the stick. I have a 24" Imac, and things went south, so I ended up getting a different machine. Now I need a monitor.

I would like to get a new LCD. I currently have two machines, and only 1 Dell 2007WFP monitor it uses an S-IPS panel, and I'm very happy with it. I would like to get another 24" monitor.

I'd like to play games with it, and do some photography work with it (editing files, etc), so color quality is important.

My budget, is around 600-700.00. I've looked all over the web, read reviews, and well quite frankly, my head is going to explode.

I could use some of your experience, and knowledge on what would be a good panel choice that isn't to expensive, gets the job done, and doesn't suck.

Please help.

i dont even know of any IPS 24" ones outside of the $1200 NEC one.

for 600-700 you can probably get a LG L246wp-bn though they are starting to be hard to find. its PMVA>

ok. How about a 21-23"... I just read the round up on anandtech, and I'd prefer to stay away from the input lag.. even though I still don't understand if you would actually see it while using the display.

I would get a 23" Apple Cinema display, but it has no HDCP support. And if I buy this, I will need to keep it for quite some time, otherwise my wife will have my head.

I saw that. Been reading up the reviews on that one, some are mixed. I've never actually purchased an LG LCD, plus I can't find any information of their website. If it wasn't for trying to future proof crap by making sure the panel is HDCP compliant, and not wanting to send 1100.00 for an LCD, I'd get an Apple Cinema display...

Dell 2408wfp. It is an S-PVA panel and can be had for a bit under $600 (Google the model name). It has tons - I mean TONS - of inputs, supports HDCP and has the best color gamut of any display in its class. I also direct your attention to the 24" LCD review on the Anandtech front page.

That review pretty much decided me to get the Dell, which will happen in a month to six weeks. I plan to do a lot of Blu-Ray movies on it and some art and photo stuff. I'm not a big gamer, so other than the slight input lag the Dell looks to be the all-around best out there for the money.

If you really want an S-IPS panel, the Double-Sight 26" monitor on NewEgg looks to be by far the best buy of its type and gets rave reviews. That would be my second choice.

I absolutely love this monitor and am so glad that I bought it. My only gripe with it is the deep power saving state that is slow to wake up. During boot I have to listen for the mb speaker beep if I want to enter the bios because the monitor is still not awake yet. Otherwise playing games and anything else looks great on it with absolutely no ghosting.

I haven't actively tried to purchase one. Just eyeing them.

But we did get our stimulus rebate today, so maybe the wife won't mind if I waste part of it.

Oh wow, it's OOS everywhere now? DAMN I'm glad I jumped on the DS when I did.

It is an amazing monitor, if your budget caps at ~$700, I'd wait for it to come back in stock.

I've never games on an LCD, I am still rocking it with my old 17" Trinitron.

So I really don't know if I am very sensetive to a lower refresh rate. Does anyone have any real problems with gaming on the Dell 2405, 07 or 08?

I mainly like FPS games and I have always dreamed of getting a Dell, but I am not sure if I want to spend $600 only to find out that the ghosting is too bad. I really wanted the Dell for the quality, viewing angles and color accuracy because I planned to hook up my PS2 and various other consoles as I get them...and the Dell also has the best input selection.

The Gateway seems to be the only other viable option with all of those inputs, but I might not like the color accuracy, or poor viewing angles. I would actually like the Samsung 2439 better, if it had more inputs.

Thanks for the insight folks. Since I really don't plan on watching and HD stuff on the computer, I went and picked up a 23" Apple Cinema display.

Hey I have noticed that there is a deal on the ASUS MK241H monitor, looks pretty good with 450 cd/m2 brightness and 2ms response time. Personally I think the specifications are good but I don't have any experience with ASUS monitor before, maybe you can have a look at it.

I saw it, thanks. But what people are saying on reseller ratings makes me nervous.

Well, I remember a couple of years ago when everyone liked futurepowerpc because they had great prices on video cards and didn't speak ill of them.
