Hey everyone

I just built my first PC. Specs are-

Fractal Meshify case
RYZEN 2700x
ASUS Crosshair Hero 7 Motherboard
EVGA RTX 2070
16 gigs 3400 RAM

I was looking to upgrade my cooling and want to stick with air. I was wondering if I should upgrade my case fans or should I upgrade my CPU cooler?

I know the 2700x isn't a real good OC'er but I was thinking maybe down the line I would tinker with OO'ing it. The stock prism cooler is supposed to be decent but you can always get a better cooler I think. Or should I just replace the stock Fractal design Meshify fans with better case fans.

Thanks for any advice you can give me!

Can you tell something about the use. e.g.
  1. What you gonna use this computer for ?
  2. You going to play games ?
  3. if games, then name few of them

Also try PCPartPicker for checking out any incompatibilities for the parts, just like I got mine here.

Then you need to head out to Graphics Cards section of forums and put there what kinds of games you play. I have absolutely zero idea about which GPUg goes with what games. I am a workstation guy

Just did a similar build:

2700X
Asrock B450 ITX motherboard
Meshify-C Mini
EVGA 2080 XC Ultra (the 2.75 slot one)
16GB 3200 Memory

I wanted something very quiet, so for cooling I used:
2X Noctua 140mm front fans (the flex version, just because it was the least expensive)
1X Stock Fractal Design fan in rear
All three will be run off a splitter from the motherboard header and set to ~50% speed.

CPU Cooler:
Noctua NH-U14S (with AM4 adapter brackets)

I am currently running the two front fans off the power supply with the Noctua "low noise" adapters installed, and they are still the noisiest part of the system. That is why I will be installing the fan hub off the motherboard, so I can control the fan speed better. We will see how that does. the CPU fan and rear case fan are essentially silent. In fact, the mobo will shut down the rear case fan most of the time because everything is running so cool.

Really like this setup now, and think it will be even better once I get the front fans going off the motherboard. Good luck with your choices.

If your case will
Fit it think about the EVGA CLC240.

It is very quiet and performs well.

2700X is a decent overclocker... who told you its not?
Ive seen these guys go as high as 4.4ghz, and float anywhere from 4.1-4.3ghz with conservative settings.

Sure they are no where close to to a intel 8800k or a 9900k or a 8087k in 5ghz numbers, but it seems like your the type that doesn't even care about eye poping overclock.

Anyhow... back on subject... the wraith cooler, is a decient 4 pipe cooler.
Although its not the best, i hear its along the lines of a hyper 212 evo, which is pretty acceptable.

There are better sinks like the Noctua D14, which could help keep temps in check even better, there are

Incase you want to check out AIO CLC's closed loop coolers (those box all in one watercoolers), however for one to be equivalent to a D14, you need to get into at least the 120x2-120x3 territory.

Your case has almost no restrictions to cooling equipment, outside custom water.
So how much your willing to spend on a better cooler maybe a better question to help you replace that wraith.

If size is no issue, I'd throw an NH-D15 or a Silver Arrow on there. I have a D15 + fast fans (Noctua IndustrialPPC 3000 rpm) and it sounds like an airport in here. Does the job though. Whoooosh.

edit: some would recommend the Le Grand Macho RT. I find that the NH-D15 outperforms it at high heat loads, which is where you really need the cooling most.

Your findings are correct (at least from majority of cooler reviews/experiences I have watched over YouTube in this whole December month. Heck, NH-D15 even performs equal to many good quality and pricey AIOs.

While I agree with you on that Wraith Prism that you get with 2700X is a really good cooler and I don't see how it is better than Hyper 212 or even Gammaxx 400. Check these videos out:

For the OP, yeah, I think NH-D15 will do great. I think NH-D15 is one of the best for the price anyone can get right now, even with comparison to many quality AIOs like Corsair H100i pro:

Are you having cooling issues? I don't see any mention of the actual temps or issues you are currently having.

I had a Corsair H150i on my 2700X when it was my gaming/work desktop. Now that it serves as a media server, I have the Wraith cooler on it in a server chasis and it does just as well. The chip never overclocked high enough for cooling to be an issue.
