new 2nd hard drive causing fps to drop

any reason why putting in a new hard drive would cause games to drop in fps?

specs:
ASRock Z87M PRO4 LGA
Intel i5 4670k
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)
CORSAIR CX500M 500W
MSI R7850 Twin Frozr
Asus DRW-24B1ST
Samsung 840 Series 120GB

when this hard drive is put in, it drops the fps by alot (Western Digital Blue 500gb) on league of legends for example. any idea why?

The only way I could see a HDD having an impact on FPS is if your PC was running short on RAM and was paging memory to the drive.

Or, if your power supply was marginal. However, that power supply should provide more than ample juice for your listed components.

It might be a good idea to run the WDC bootable disc diagnostic on the hard drive. You could have gotten a bad one out of the box (happens more often than you would think, especially with some retailers more than others due to packaging issues). Another thing you could try is replacing the SATA cable as well as moving the hard drive SATA cable to another port - it shouldn't matter with that motherboard, given that all SATA ports are provided by the same chipset, but who knows?

Finally, are the FPS drops immediate (i.e. noticeable as soon as you boot the system and start a game), or do they show up after extended use? If it occurs after extended use, try turning off the system's ability to put the WD hard drive to sleep in Device Manager.

Is the game installed on the WD Blue drive?

game is installed on the SSD. fps drops noticeable as soon as the game starts. after trying to take out the harddrive, fps seemed to go back to normal, but then it would drop again. will go ahead and try the methods listed above, thanks.

How fast is the read and write on the disk this could be the cause of your problem.
